The Panthers signed Smith to their practice squad Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Smith began the 2021 campaign on the Jaguars' practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster ahead of Week 1 -- his first NFL appearance since 2019 -- and played just seven offensive snaps. He spent the new few weeks on Jacksonville's practice squad before getting cut Oct. 12. The 2015 second-round pick now joins a Carolina team that has only four healthy wideouts on their active roster. If Terrace Marshall (concussion) is sidelined again for Week 8, then Smith may join the 53-man roster for Sunday's matchup against the Falcons.
