Holton was released by the Giants on Saturday, Michael Eisen of the team's official site reports.
Holton signed with the team Wednesday and didn't prove himself enough in his short time with the team to secure a roster spot. The 29-year-old was active for all 16 games with the Steelers last season but caught just three passes for 21 yards on 15 targets.
