  • Patterson carried the ball seven times for 23 yards in Sunday's 27-21 win over the Panthers. Patterson was on the field for 13 of Washington's 67 offensive snaps, operating as the No. 3 running back behind both Antonio Gibson and J.D. McKissic. While Gibson and McKissic are healthy, the rookie will likely continue to see minimal work moving forward.

  • Patterson took four carries for seven yards in a 29-19 win over Tampa Bay on Sunday. The undrafted rookie played five snaps (seven percent) and took one carry in each of the game's four quarters. It was a smaller workload than what Patterson got directly before Washington's Week 9 bye, but that was in a 17-10 loss to Denver during which Antonio Gibson's shin injury flared up. While it could still be an issue again, Gibson managed 24 carries for 64 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's upset win, with no report of a setback along the way. That likely limits Patterson to a handful of touches, or perhaps even less, in Week 11 against the Panthers.

  • Patterson carried the ball 11 times for 46 yards and failed to catch his only target in Sunday's 17-10 loss to the Broncos. His numbers were modest, but the rookie led Washington in rushing yards and saw exactly as many touches as both Antonio Gibson and J.D. McKissic. Patterson's role figures to shrink again coming out of a Week 9 bye if Gibson, who has been playing through a shin injury, is back to 100 percent.

  • Patterson appears to have a spot on Washington's initial 53-man roster, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports. The undrafted rookie out of Buffalo is one of three running backs left on the roster after Peyton Barber was released Tuesday morning, though it is possible Washington re-signs Barber after cutdown day (and thus avoids guaranteeing his salary). Even if Barber is brought back, the willingness to risk losing him suggests Washington is comfortable with Patterson in the No. 3 role. The rookie likely won't match Barber's contributions as a blocker or coverage man on special teams, but Patterson could get some touches on kick returns and would also offer a more explosive element if Washington ever needed to replace an injured Antonio Gibson or J.D. McKissic.

  • Patterson took 10 carries for 40 yards and caught three of four targets for 30 yards in Thursday's 22-13 preseason loss to New England. The undrafted rookie out of Buffalo is competing with Lamar Miller, Peyton Barber and Jonathan Williams for one or two spots at RB behind roster locks Antonio Gibson and J.D. McKissic. While Barber and Miller scored Washington's touchdowns Thursday night, Patterson was the only back on the team with more than 35 total yards. In terms of playing time, Gibson and McKissic handled the first quarter, followed by Barber early in the second quarter and then a busy drive for Patterson right before halftime (capped off by Barber's one-yard TD). Patterson continued dominating carries in the third quarter before turning things over to Jonathan Williams and Lamar Miller for most of the final frame. It appears that Barber and Patterson are leading the competition for RB depth spots. They'll continue the battle at training camp next week, leading up to an Aug. 20 (Friday) preseason game against Cincinnati.
