Avalanche's Ryan Murray: Facing multi-week absence

According to coach Jared Bednar, Murray (upper body) will be out "weeks not days" after suffering a fracture while blocking a shot during Monday's win over Edmonton, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports.

Given the expected length of Murray's absence, the 28-year-old defender will likely surface on injured reserve in the coming days. Samuel Girard (lower body) is still out long term, and Bowen Byram (head) remains without an expected timetable for his return, so the Avalanche will likely need to promote a blueliner from their AHL affiliate to fill in for the foreseeable future.
