Morgan Rielly D | TOR
Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly: Battling illness
Rielly (illness) won't participate in Wednesday's practice.
Rielly has five goals and 22 points in 28 outings in 2025-26. It's unclear if he'll be an option to play against San Jose on Thursday. If Rielly is out, he would join fellow defensemen Brandon Carlo (lower body), Dakota Mermis (lower body) and Chris Tanev (upper body) on the shelf. The Maple Leafs recalled Henry Thrun from AHL Toronto on Wednesday after Mermis sustained an injury in Monday's 2-0 win over Tampa Bay.

Henry Thrun D | TOR
Maple Leafs' Henry Thrun: Called up Wednesday
Thrun was recalled from AHL Toronto on Wednesday.
Thrun has been putting up decent numbers in the minors, generating three goals and six helpers in 19 appearances with the Marlies. With Dakota Mermis (lower body) on injured reserve and Morgan Rielly under the weather, the 24-year-old Thrun could be pressed into service versus the Sharks on Thursday.

Dakota Mermis D | TOR
Maple Leafs' Dakota Mermis: Placed on injured reserve
Mermis (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, retroactive to Dec. 8.
The 31-year-old defender will miss about a month after exiting Monday's game against the Lightning in the third period, Lance Hornby of The Toronto Sun reports. The Maple Leafs recalled Henry Thrun from AHL Toronto in a corresponding move. Thrun will probably enter the lineup for Thursday's game against San Jose, but Philippe Myers could also see some additional playing time in Mermis' absence.

Maxwell Crozier D | TB
Lightning's Max Crozier: First point since return
Crozier logged an assist, two shots on goal, three blocked shots and two PIM in Tuesday's 6-1 win over the Canadiens.
The helper was Crozier's first point in four games since he returned from missing eight contests due to an undisclosed injury. The 25-year-old defenseman will continue to play regularly as the Lightning fill holes on the blue line, one of which reopened when Victor Hedman (undisclosed) left this contest early. Crozier has amassed four helpers, 21 shots on net, 13 hits, nine blocked shots and a plus-4 rating over 12 outings while battling his own injury troubles this season.

Cale Makar D | COL
Avalanche's Cale Makar: First power-play goal of season
Makar scored a power-play goal on six shots, blocked two shots and added two PIM in Tuesday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Predators.
Makar's tally came with eight seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 3-3. It was his first power-play goal of the campaign. The 27-year-old defenseman has gotten on the scoresheet in eight of the last nine contests, earning two goals and six assists in that span. Overall, he's at 10 goals, 36 points (10 on the power play), 92 shots on net, 54 blocked shots, 16 PIM and a plus-27 rating through 30 outings.

Brady Skjei D | NSH
Predators' Brady Skjei: Nets first goal of season
Skjei scored a goal on three shots in Tuesday's 4-3 shootout win over the Avalanche.
Skjei has a point in each of the last two games after going eight contests without one. His tally Tuesday gave the Predators a 3-2 lead in the third period, but they couldn't make it stick. The 31-year-old defenseman has had a mediocre year so far with eight points, 47 shots on net, 27 blocked shots, 23 hits and a minus-15 rating through 29 appearances in a top-four role. He might be able to improve his offense, but his plus-minus figures to remain poor while playing on a weak team.

Jackson LaCombe D | ANA
Ducks' Jackson LaCombe: Three-game, three-point streak
LaCombe scored a goal in a 4-3 shootout win over Pittsburgh on Tuesday.
LaCombe carried the puck down the far wall and wired a wrist shot from a sharp angle over Arturs Silovs' right shoulder. The marker stretched his point streak to three games and three points (one goal, two assists; 12 shots). LaCombe has four goals, 13 assists and 67 shots in 30 games, which puts him on course to equal or better his 43-point success last year.

Rasmus Dahlin D | BUF
Sabres' Rasmus Dahlin: Registers three helpers
Dahlin logged three assists, four shots on net and two PIM in Tuesday's 4-3 overtime win over the Oilers.
Dahlin set up both of Josh Doan's power-play tallies as well as Alex Tuch's game-winning goal 20 seconds into overtime. With a goal and five helpers over his last three games, Dahlin is picking up the pace again on offense. He's at 23 points (10 on the power play), 72 shots on net, 23 hits, 31 blocked shots, 33 PIM and a minus-13 rating over 27 outings this season. The 25-year-old continues to see workhorse usage in a top-pairing role.

Erik Karlsson D | PIT
Penguins' Erik Karlsson: Unlucky two-assist effort
Karlsson had two assists in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Ducks on Tuesday.
He was unlucky, too -- the game-tying goal with 0.1 second left in the third period went in off his glove, forcing overtime and ultimately the shootout. Karlsson is having another strong season. He has 20 points, including 19 assists, in 28 games, but unless he goes on a real tear, there's no way he can hit double digit snipes. Still, Karlsson is a strong fantasy play.

Logan Stanley D | WPG
Jets' Logan Stanley: Scores in Tuesday's loss
Stanley scored a goal on three shots in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Stars.
Stanley ended a nine-game point drought with his third-period tally. He got the Jets within a goal, but they were unable to pull even. Stanley has found another level on offense this year with four goals and 10 points through 29 appearances after putting 14 points in 63 regular-season outings last year. He's added 30 shots on net, 52 hits, 37 blocked shots, 55 PIM and a plus-2 rating this season despite primarily working on the third pairing.
