Completing his quick comeback, Ben Sheets will start for the Braves on Sunday, sources said.
Sheets, the four-time All-Star, will be making his first major-league appearance since 2010. Sheets, still only 33, has looked good in two minor-league starts since signing recently with the Braves. He pitched six innings for Double-A Mississippi on Monday night, allowing one run (none earned) in six innings.
Atlanta is in contention in the NL East and Sheets could be a big shot in the arm. Sheets will join a rotation that includes Tim Hudson, Tommy Hanson and Jair Jurrjens, who himself made a comeback this year. The fifth spot will be filled by either Randall Delgado or Mike Minor.
Sheets is an extremely talented pitcher who's been hampered by a variety of injuries throughout his careeer. The former Olympic hero was with the A's in 2010 after spending the bulk of his career with the Brewers.
The Braves have considered outside help for their rotation, as well, and are one of many teams to investigate Brewers star Zack Greinke. They lost Brandon Beachy for the season because of an elbow injury and have had mixed results from some of their top young pitching prospects.
