Chicago Cubs general manager Theo Epstein said third baseman Josh Vitters and outfielder Brett Jackson will return to Triple-A Iowa next season, according to the Chicago Tribune’s Paul Sullivan.
Both players spent a limited amount of time with the Cubs this season, with Jackson hitting .175/.303/.342 in 142 plate appearances and Vitters hitting .121/.193/.202 in 109 plate appearances.
Formerly ranked as a top-50 prospect by Baseball America in 2008, Vitters hit .304/.356/.513 with 17 home runs in 452 plate appearances in Triple-A this year. It was the 22-year-old’s first exposure to Triple-A pitching.
Jackson, who was rated the No. 32 prospect in baseball by Baseball America before the 2012 season, hit .256/.338/.479 with 15 home runs and 27 stolen bases in 467 plate appearances at Triple-A this season.
