David Wright: Shoulder problem not reason from slump

Mets third baseman David Wright has responded to those who believe he has been negatively affected by a left shoulder problem that has plagued him since early summer. He added that it will remain a problem until he receives offseason rest.

Wright, however, refused to blame the ailment for a miserable year at the plate that has resulted in a stat line of ..266/.324/.368 with just eight home runs. He has just three hits in his last 28 at-bats and was forced to sit Tuesday.

"Is [the shoulder] the reason that I'm struggling the way I'm struggling?" Wright asked Newsday. "No. So, I think it's not a reasonable assessment as to why I'm playing poorly."

Wright has also been dealing with an unrelated neck injury.
