Mets starter Jonathon Niese has a partial rotator cuff tear, Sportsnet New York reports.

The club is hoping he won't require surgery, but he will likely be shut down for two weeks as a result. It appears manager Terry Collins' declaration that the injury was "nothing severe" may have been a bit optimistic. A best-case scenario may see Niese back within about a month, but any time avoiding surgery is classified as a "hope" the worst-case scenario could be ugly.
