Orioles outfielder Nick Markakis had gone 31 games between extra-base hits but finally snapped that slump in a big way Sunday in a win over Oakland. Markakis lined a double to right-center field off Oakland rookie Sonny Gray in the third inning to snap the streak.
Markakis wasn't done there, however, as he added his first home run since June 24 later in the game. Markakis hit his ninth HR of the season in the eighth inning for a solo shot. He finished 2 for 4 and is batting .277 on the year.
While Markakis has hit in three straight and seven of his last 10 games, the extra-base hits is where he was lacking so it was good to see him record two Sunday.
