Twins pitcher Phil Hughes is hoping he won't have to rely on his new park in order to improve, according to MLB Network Radio.
Hughes said his goal was to improve as a pitcher, not take advantage of the Twins spacious ballpark. Hughes has had trouble with the longball, giving up 59 home runs over the past two seasons. His extreme fly ball approach was not a good fit for Yankees Stadium. Target Field does a much better job preventing home runs, which means Hughes should be in for some improvement despite his fly ball approach.
Last season, Hughes posted a 5.19 ERA in 145 2/3 innings.
