Savannah Bananas infielder calls his shot on defense during mic'd up segment
Bill LeRoy said he would make a barehanded play and make a barehanded play he did

The Savannah Bananas might be the most popular baseball team in the country that is not affiliated with an MLB organization. The Bananas are part of the Coastal Plain League, a wood bat summer league for college players. They've sold out every single home game since 2016 thanks in part to their creative promotions.
The Bananas occasionally mic up players during their games so they can be included in the broadcast, and they're not just trying to catch snippy commentary between pitches. They're listening in during the game itself, and every so often it leads to magic. On Saturday, third baseman Bill LeRoy called his shot on a barehanded play.
"Gonna roll it over, I'm gonna backhand it on the short hop, and Manny Machado underhand throw it to first," LeRoy said before the play, and that's exactly how it played out. Check it out:
You literally cannot make this stuff up. @bleroy28 calls his own play while mic'd up with our broadcaster to make the out 🤯🤯🤯 pic.twitter.com/xrfEdJLQgT

"Look at this, Biko! Biko! I literally just called that!" LeRoy yelled to Biko Skalla, Savannah's broadcaster, following the play.
MLB mic'd up players during spring training games in 2020, most notably Pete Alonso and Freddie Freeman, and there was talk they would do it throughout the regular season as well. That never happened because of the pandemic, though it is something the league can (and should) revisit in the future. The more access to players, the better. LeRoy reminded us of that Saturday.
