McNutt signed a minor-league contract with the Giants on Saturday.
McNutt returned to affiliated ball last season after a pair of years in the independent American Association, posting a 5.12 ERA in the two highest levels of the Athletics' system. The 30-year-old has yet to make his big-league debut.

Athletics' Trey McNutt: Latches on with A's
The Athletics purchased McNutt's contract from the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks of the independent American Association, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.
McNutt spent the past two seasons with the Redhawks, posting a combined 5.18 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 176:71 K:BB across 163.1 innings (58 appearances, 20 starts). The 29-year-old spent time with the Cubs and Padres from 2009-2016, though he never pitched above Double-A for either organization.

Padres' Trey McNutt: Signs minor league deal with Padres
McNutt has signed a minor league contract with the Padres, Baseball America reports.
A former top prospect, the 26-year-old no longer has the glimmer he once did. He'll look for a fresh start with a new organization in the Padres, but spent most of the 2015 campaign on the disabled list following shoulder surgery in 2014.
