Garcia will take another step forward in his rehab Wednesday by going up against live batters for the first time since undergoing surgery to clean up scar tissue around his right elbow. Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Closing in on rehab stint
Garcia (elbow) threw another side session Friday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports, and per MLB.com the veteran reliever is close to beginning a rehab assignment.
Garcia hasn't pitched in a big-league game since July 2 of last season, eventually undergoing surgery on his elbow in September to clean up scar tissue from a prior procedure. He's in the final stages of his recovery, and the Blue Jays remain optimistic the right-hander will be able to rejoin the bullpen by the end of April. Once he's activated and shakes off the rust, Garcia will provide another high-leverage bridge to closer Jeff Hoffman.

Garcia (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.
Garcia needed a cleanup procedure on his elbow late last season, which caused him to miss Toronto's playoff run, and he just started throwing off a mound again two weeks ago. Still being built up, Garcia could head out on a rehab assignment in the coming weeks.

Garcia resumed throwing off a mound shortly before the end of spring training, but he'll need more time to continue building back up before the Blue Jays send him out on a minor-league rehab assignment, perhaps at some point in April. Garcia (elbow) threw off a mound Saturday for the first time this spring, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Manager John Schneider noted that Garcia is a "huge part" of Toronto's bullpen and that it was "pretty cool" to see him back up there. It has already been confirmed that Garcia won't be ready for Opening Day, but he will continue his throwing progression and should return to a late-inning role early in the season if he avoids setbacks.

Garcia underwent surgery to clean up scar tissue around his right elbow, which caused him to miss the Blue Jays' postseason run. The 35-year-old reliever has yet to throw off a mound but hopes to do so over the next week or two. Garcia's absence opens the door for other relievers such as Spencer Miles, Mason Fluharty and Chase Lee to potentially earn larger roles for themselves to begin the 2026 season.

Manager John Schneider said Tuesday that Garcia is feeling good and has thrown for numerous weeks following surgery in September to clean up scar tissue in his right elbow, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
The Blue Jays will remain cautious with Garcia's buildup, but the team hopes he will be ready for Opening Day. The surgery the right-hander had on his elbow effectively ended his 2025 season as he was placed on the 60-day injured list at the end of August.

Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Moves to 60-day IL
The Blue Jays transferred Garcia (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.
The Blue Jays announced Friday that Garcia would require season-ending surgery to clean up scar tissue around his right elbow, so it was only a matter of time before he was shifted to the 60-day IL to open up a spot on the 40-man roster. The right-hander finished the 2025 campaign with a 3.86 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 25:12 K:BB over 21 innings. Garcia is owed $7.5 million for 2026 and is expected to be healthy for the start of spring training.

Garcia (elbow) continues to experience ulnar nerve symptoms and is returning to Toronto on Friday to be re-evaluated, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
The right-hander was working his way back from an ankle sprain in mid-July when the nerve symptoms surfaced, and he's apparently been unable to make much progress in his recovery over the past month. Garcia was filling a high-leverage role for Toronto with three saves and six holds in 22 appearances, but his availability for the playoff push remains in question due to the lingering injury.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Wednesday that Garcia (ankle/elbow) could be a week or so away from resuming a throwing program, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Though Garcia was placed on the injured list July 5 due to a left ankle sprain, the Blue Jays recently revealed that he had also been experiencing ulnar nerve symptoms in his right elbow. He received a cortisone shot last week to address the elbow issue, and the Blue Jays are still waiting for the injection to alleviate some of the discomfort before clearing him to throw. The reliever will probably require a minor-league rehab assignment prior to being activated, so he's unlikely to be an option for the Toronto bullpen until the second half of August.
