Aneury Tavarez: Let go by Boston
Tavarez was released by the Red Sox on Friday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Tavarez re-signed with the Red Sox in February and earned an invite to spring training, but ultimately began the season at Double-A Portland. The 27-year-old struggled with a .192/.272/.260 slash line for the Sea Dogs, and also struggled with a .626 OPS at Triple-A Pawtucket last season.

Red Sox's Aneury Tavarez: Earns spring training invite
Tavarez has been invited to the Red Sox's spring training camp as a non-roster invitee, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
Tavarez signed a minor-league contract with the Red Sox in October and is likely a long-shot to crack the Opening Day roster. The 25-year-old had difficulties with Triple-A Pawtucket in 2017, but had a .377/.473/.475 slash line in 61 at-bats with Double-A Portland.

Red Sox's Aneury Tavarez: Signs contract with Red Sox
Tavarez signed a minor-league contract with the Red Sox, Rich Dubroff of PressBoxOnline reports.
Tavarez hasn't played in any big-league games yet in his career, and struggled during his time with Triple-A Pawtucket last season. He wound up spending the end of the year in Double-A with the Sea Dogs, and slashed a robust .377/.473/.475 in 18 games. It remains to be seen what the 25-year-old's role will be heading into next year, but at the very least, he will provide more outfield depth within the organization.

Red Sox's Aneury Tavarez: Returned to Red Sox
Tavarez, a Rule 5 draft pick, has been returned to the Red Sox.
Tavarez went 14-for-48 at the dish this spring and even swiped eight bags along the way. It wasn't enough to beat out Joey Rickard for an Opening Day roster spot, however, so he will head back to Boston, where the minor leagues likely await him.

Orioles' Aneury Tavarez: Placed on waivers
Tavarez was placed on outright waivers by the Orioles on Wednesday, Jon Meoli of the Baltimore Sun reports.
Tavarez was fighting for a outfield job with Joey Rickard this spring, and while he did well himself -- hitting .292 with eight stolen bases and five RBI -- Rickard proved to be slightly more productive. The 24-year-old, who was a Rule 5 pick, will now be subjected to waivers and offered back to the Red Sox if he goes unclaimed.

Orioles' Aneury Tavarez: Putting up good fight for roster spot
Tavarez, who's fighting for an outfield job this spring, is hitting .268/.348/.366 through 41 Grapefruit League at-bats.
Tavarez has put together a respectable exhibition season that includes a homer, five RBI, six runs and a team-leading six stolen bases. On the other hand, his top contender, Joey Rickard, has been annihilating spring pitching (.368/.529/.362) and proven to be the Orioles' best offensive producer this spring. Manager Buck Showalter will have a tough decision to make on Tavarez in the coming days. If the Rule 5 pick is not kept on the active roster all season, then he'll be exposed to waivers and offered back to the Red Sox.

Orioles' Aneury Tavarez: Using speed to fight for Opening Day job
Tavarez went 1-for-3 with two steals, an RBI and a run in Sunday's spring game against the Pirates.
No Orioles player had more than five stolen bases last season, and only two Birds had three or more. Tavarez, who's fighting for a reserve job in the outfield, needs to use his speed to prove he can bring value to the Opening Day roster. Throughout his six seasons in the minors, the speedster has registered 90 stolen bases in 133 attempts (a 68 percent success rate). Tavarez's top competition to keep an eye on throughout camp is Joey Rickard, who played in 85 games for the O's last year.
