  • Matt Ramsey: Cut loose by Angels

The Angels released Ramsey on Sunday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

After he was designated for assignment Friday, Ramsey went unclaimed off waivers by the other 29 teams. That gave the Angels the right to keep the right-hander around as a depth arm in the minors, but the organization apparently had no interest in doing so. Ramsey will now look to find work elsewhere after posting a 5.27 ERA and 1.82 WHIP in 12 relief appearances at Triple-A Salt Lake prior to getting removed from the Angels' 40-man roster.

  • Angels' Matt Ramsey: Booted from 40-man

Ramsey was designated for assignment by the Angels on Friday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Los Angeles cleared a spot on the 40-man roster to make room for John Curtiss, whose contract was selected earlier in the day. Ramsey owns a 5.27 ERA and 1.82 WHIP with a 15:8 K:BB over 13.2 innings this season with Triple-A Salt Lake.

  • Angels' Matt Ramsey: Demoted to Triple-A

Ramsey was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday, Maria Torres of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Ramsey's contract was selected by the Angels on Wednesday, and despite throwing a scoreless inning Thursday, he's been sent back to the minor leagues. Luke Bard appears to be the player called up in a corresponding move, per Torres.

  • Angels' Matt Ramsey: Inks minors deal with Angels

Ramsey signed a minor-league contract that includes an inviation to spring training with the Angels on Tuesday Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Ramsey spent last season with Triple-A Fresno after failing to make the Astros' Opening Day roster and had a 2.30 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 54:16 K:BB across 47 innings of relief. The 29-year-old previously showed potential as a prospect but was struck by injury and pitched in only 16 games between 2015 and 2016, and is still looking to make his MLB debut.

  • Astros' Matt Ramsey: Joins Astros on minor-league deal

Ramsey signed a minor-league contract with the Astros on Monday which includes an invitation to spring training, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Ramsey, who was selected by the Brewers in last year's Rule 5 draft, spent all of 2017 in the minors, splitting time between Double-A Biloxi and Triple-A Colorado Springs. While he pitched well with the Shuckers, compiling a 3.65 ERA and 58:18 K:BB across 44.1 innings, the 28-year-old struggled mightily at the highest level of the minors, posting a rough 18.56 ERA and 5:4 K:BB across 5.1 innings. He'll get the chance to compete for an Opening Day bullpen gig, though there's a good chance he'll open the season as organizational pitching depth.

  • Brewers' Matt Ramsey: Heads to Brewers via Rule 5 draft

Ramsey was selected by Milwaukee in the Triple-A phase of the Rule 5 draft Thursday.

Ramsey missed the entire 2015 season and almost all of 2016 with an undisclosed injury, but looked promising in the very small amount of time he was on the field last season. The 27-year-old veteran pitched in six games for Double-A Jacksonville during 2016, posting a 2.00 ERA and an encouraging 12.00 K/9 following a successful five-game rehab stint at the High-A level. When healthy, Ramsey has shown potential as an effective hard-thrower with a high-velocity fastball. If he can stay healthy in 2017, which is a big "if," Ramsey could eventually make his way to Milwaukee's major league bullpen.

  • Marlins' Matt Ramsey: Outrighted from 40-man roster

Ramsey was outrighted to Triple-A New Orleans on Friday, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports.

The Marlins needed to clear some room on the 40-man rosters, hence outrighting Ramsey. A 26-year-old reliever, Ramsey has some impressive numbers, but he has now spent back-to-back seasons at Double-A.
