  • Starling Heredia: Cut loose by Dodgers

Heredia was released by the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Heredia thrived upon signing with the Dodgers in 2017, hitting over .400 at his first two rookie-league stops. However, he stalled in Class-A ball, struggling with a .204/.314/.375 slash line and a whopping 147 strikeouts in 388 plate appearances with High-A Rancho Cucamonga last season.

  • Dodgers' Starling Heredia: Busts out with three extra-base hits

Heredia went 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles and six RBI for Low-A Great Lakes in its 12-4 win over South Bend on Tuesday.

Mired in a 1-for-28 slump entering play Tuesday, Heredia broke out in a major way, with the three extra-base hits matching his total from the previous 15 games combined. Despite the big performance, the 19-year-old has struggled to a .182/.246/.341 line for the campaign and sports a .176 average across parts of two years in full-season ball. Given his age relative to level, Heredia's underwhelming numbers were to be expected, but it nonetheless keeps him off the radar in most dynasty settings.

  • Dodgers' Starling Heredia: Called up to Low-A squad

Heredia was promoted to Low-A Great Lakes on Wednesday.

It's the second promotion of the season for the Dominican outfielder, who has decimated pitching in both the Arizona and Pioneer Leagues, batting above .400 at each stop. The 18-year-old should find full-season affiliate ball a little more challenging, but even if he endures some rough patches over the next few weeks, it won't put a damper on his long-term outlook. Heredia will be one of the youngest players in the Midwest League upon his arrival, so some struggles are certainly expected.

  • Dodgers' Starling Heredia: Earns quick promotion to Pioneer League

Heredia, 18, is hitting .436/.500/.795 with two home runs, two steals (on three attempts) and a 9:5 K:BB in 39 at-bats split between the Arizona League and the Pioneer League.

He was quickly promoted from the AZL to Ogden after abusing AZL pitching to the tune of a 1.357 OPS. Pioneer League pitchers have had only marginally better luck, as Heredia is 5-for-11 with a pair of doubles through two games. Don't be surprised if he hits his way to the Midwest League before season's end.
