  • Rays' Ian Seymour: Climbs to Triple-A

Seymour was promoted from Double-A Montgomery to Triple-A Durham on Tuesday and allowed two runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out three in five innings for the Bulls.

The 25-year-old southpaw actually made two starts at Triple-A late in 2021 just to keep pitching after the High-A season wrapped up. Since then he's undergone Tommy John surgery and this is his first full season since the procedure. Seymour's fastball velocity isn't great (sits in the low-90s), but he's got a plus changeup and a quality slider. He logged a 2.36 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 99 strikeouts in 91.1 innings at Double-A prior to his promotion.

  • Rays' Ian Seymour: Back in action

Seymour (elbow) allowed two hits and two walks while striking out two over 3.1 scoreless innings Thursday against Single-A Kannapolis. He didn't factor into the decision.

Seymour has been working his way back from Tommy John surgery, and after making a handful of rehab appearances, he was officially activated from the injured list and assigned to Single-A Charleston. The 24-year-old worked his way to Triple-A Durham during the 2021 campaign (no runs allowed and nine strikeouts over 10 frames) and was stationed at Double-A Montgomery in 2022 before suffering a season-ending elbow injury. Given the nature of Seymour's injury, it wouldn't be a surprise to see the organization monitor his innings closely throughout the remainder of the minor-league season.

  • Rays' Ian Seymour: Undergoes Tommy John surgery

Seymour (elbow) is on the 7-day injured list at Double-A Montgomery and underwent Tommy John surgery this week, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Seymour posted an 8.10 ERA over 16.2 innings to open the season for the Biscuits before landing on the injured list in early May. The 2020 second-round pick will miss the rest of the season and will also be sidelined for at least the first half of 2023.

  • Rays' Ian Seymour: Flying through minors

Seymour gave up one unearned run while allowing one hit with one walk and six strikeouts in five innings Thursday in his debut for Triple-A Durham.

The 22-year-old lefty has flown through the minors in his debut season, logging 35.1 innings at Low-A, 10 innings at High-A and now five innings at Triple-A. All told, Seymour has a 2.15 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 84:16 K:BB in 50.1 innings (13 appearances). The Rays are well known for moving prospects through the minors slowly, but they have done the opposite with Seymour. He has been particularly dominant of late, striking out 55 while allowing three earned runs over his last 29 innings. At this rate, he could be a factor in the majors down the stretch.

  • Rays' Ian Seymour: Debuts at Low-A

Seymour (elbow) was assigned to Low-A Charleston on June 29 and has made three starts for the affiliate, covering 10.2 innings and giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits and four walks while striking out 13.

Seymour, a 2020 second-round pick, was on the shelf for the first two months of the minor-league season while recovering from flexor soreness in his elbow. The lefty has been able to miss bats at a high rate in his first taste of professional action, and given his draft pedigree and status as a college pitcher (Virginia Tech), he could move to High-A Bowling Green by the end of the season.

  • Rays' Ian Seymour: Rehabbing flexor injury

Seymour is in extended spring training while he rehabs flexor soreness on his pitching side, Sam Dykstra of MLB.com reports.

He started experiencing soreness midway through minor-league spring training. Seymour is back throwing but will need to build up before being assigned to an affiliate, likely Low-A Charleston.
