Merrill went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs scored in Sunday's loss to the Giants.
Merrill took Spencer Bivens deep in the fifth to finally get the Padres on the board and later scored again in the seventh on a wild pitch. The home run was his third in six starts this month and he's now second on the team in home runs and RBI, trailing Manny Machado in both categories. For the year, Merrill is slashing .290/.322/.499 with 23 homers, 83 RBI, 72 runs, 16 steals and a 25:93 BB:K in 531 plate appearances.

Merrill (knee) could return to the starting lineup Sunday after he pinch hit for Tyler Wade in the ninth inning of Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Giants, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Merrill was forced to leave Friday's game against the Padres after fouling a ball off his knee in the sixth inning. X-rays came back negative, and while he was held out of Saturday's lineup, the 21-year-old could be inserted back into the starting nine for Sunday's series finale. Since the All-Star break, Merrill has slashed .315/.343/.617 with 10 home runs and 36 RBI over 175 plate appearances.

Merrill suffered the injury in the sixth inning but stayed in the game for an additional frame. He underwent X-rays after the game, which came back clean. The Padres may play it safe with the rookie, but Merrill appears to have avoided a serious injury.

Merrill went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run and two runs scored in Wednesday's extra-inning win over Detroit.
Merrill tallied hits in each of his first two at-bats, including a three-run homer off Keider Montero in the fourth to put the Padres on the board. The rookie outfielder would also add a ground rule double in the seventh before later scoring the game-winning run on a walk-off single from Fernando Tatis in the bottom of the 10th. Merrill continues to swing a hot bat and has now homered in three of his last six games, posting seven RBI and four runs over that stretch. He's also hit safely in 10 of his last 12 contests, while the long ball was his 22nd of the campaign.

Merrill broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with his two-run shot to center field. Merrill was one of the Padres' few bright spots in Thursday's defeat, launching a homer, his 20th of the year, off Sonny Gray in the fifth inning for San Diego's lone run before swiping his 16th base. The 21-year-old rookie continues to impress -- he's batting .329 (29-for-85) with seven long balls and 15 extra-base hits in his last 23 games.
