Pirates' Hunter Owen: Moves to minor-league camp
The Pirates reassigned Owen to minor-league camp Tuesday.
Owen is expected to open the season at Triple-A Indianapolis, where he should play on a near-everyday basis. The 28-year-old made his big-league debut in 2021, going hitless across five plate appearances with Pittsburgh before he was outrighted off the 40-man roster last May.

Pirates' Hunter Owen: Clears waivers
Owen cleared waivers Saturday and was outrighted to Triple-A Indianapolis, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.
Owen passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment Tuesday, which is hardly a surprise given that he's a 27-year-old with just five MLB plate appearances under his belt. He'll remain as organizational depth for the Pirates for now.

He was recently nursing a bruised hand and made just four at-bats across three appearances while with the big club. Gregory Polanco was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move.

Owew suffered a right hand contusion during Wednesday's loss to the Padres, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.
The 27-year-old started in right field in his big-league debut Wednesday and went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts before being hit by a pitch. Owen will be evaluated further Thursday during the scheduled off day.

Pirates' Hunter Owen: Contract selected by Pittsburgh
Owen had his contract selected by the Pirates on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old will receive his first taste of big-league action with Gregory Polanco (undisclosed) landing on the injured list. Owen was promoted to Triple-A in 2019 but struggled at the highest level of the minors, posting a .622 OPS across 42 games.
