  • White Sox's Emilio Vargas: Receives invite to big-league camp

Vargas has signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox that includes an invite to major-league spring training. Vargas was on track to serve as a non-roster invitee with the White Sox in 2021, but visa issues prevented him from doing so. The right-hander posted a 2.90 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in 21 appearances (15 starts) at Double-A Birmingham last year and will have an opportunity to make an impression during spring training in 2022.

  • White Sox's Emilio Vargas: Reassigned to MiLB camp

The White Sox reassigned Vargas (non-injury related) to their minor-league camp Wednesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Vargas was slated to join the White Sox for big-league spring training as a non-roster invitee, but visa issues prevented him from getting into a Cactus League game before Chicago reassigned him. With the Triple-A season not starting until May, Vargas will still have plenty of time to build up for game action once he arrives at minor-league camp.

  • White Sox's Emilio Vargas: Delayed by visa issues

White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said Wednesday that Vargas' arrival at spring camp would be delayed while he deals with visa issues, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. Vargas' late start to spring training will only further diminish his long odds of winning a spot in the White Sox's Opening Day bullpen. The 24-year-old right-hander will be attending camp as a non-roster invitee.

  • White Sox's Emilio Vargas: Clears waivers

Vargas passed through waivers unclaimed Monday and was outrighted to Triple-A Charlotte, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. Vargas was claimed off waivers from the Diamondbacks in November, but the White Sox managed to slip him through without any other team showing interest and will get to keep him in the organization. He's yet to pitch above the Double-A level, so he'll likely open the season at Triple-A.

  • White Sox's Emilio Vargas: Designated for assignment

Vargas was designated for assignment by the White Sox on Monday, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. Vargas was picked up off waivers from the Diamondbacks back in November but won't wind up lasting the full offseason on the White Sox's 40-man roster. While he's yet to pitch above Double-A, there's still a chance he gets claimed again, as he posted a decent 3.78 ERA at that level in 17 start in 2019 and is still just 24 years old.

  • White Sox's Emilio Vargas: Claimed by White Sox

Vargas was claimed off waivers by the White Sox on Friday. The 24-year-old was removed from Arizona's 40-man roster this week, and Chicago decided to put in a waiver claim. Vargas has yet to make his major-league debut and had a 3.78 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 70:23 K:BB over 85.2 innings (17 starts) at Double-A in 2019.

  • Diamondbacks' Emilio Vargas: Sent to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks optioned Vargas to Triple-A Reno on March 6. Vargas was one of the Diamondbacks' early cuts from big-league camp, an unsurprising development given that he's yet to pitch at the Triple-A level. He spent most of the 2019 season with Double-A Jackson, posting a 3.78 ERA and 70:23 K:BB in 85.2 innings.

  • Diamondbacks' Emilio Vargas: Returns from injured list

Vargas (biceps) was activated off the 7-day injured list Thursday and allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits over five innings for Double-A Jackson. He had three strikeouts and zero walks. Vargas was sidelined since mid-May with biceps tendinitis, but he returned to action Thursday after three rehab outings with the AZL D-backs. The 22-year-old has a 5.49 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 38:5 K:BB over 39.1 innings with Jackson this season.

  • Diamondbacks' Emilio Vargas: Dealing with biceps tendinitis

Vargas was placed on the minor-league injured list with biceps tendinitis, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports. Vargas last took the mound for Double-A Jackson on May 9, but it's unclear when he sustained the injury as he was only placed on the IL within the last few days. The 22-year-old is expected to be out a couple weeks but should return sometime in June.
