Vargas has signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox that includes an invite to major-league spring training.
Vargas was on track to serve as a non-roster invitee with the White Sox in 2021, but visa issues prevented him from doing so. The right-hander posted a 2.90 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in 21 appearances (15 starts) at Double-A Birmingham last year and will have an opportunity to make an impression during spring training in 2022.

The White Sox reassigned Vargas (non-injury related) to their minor-league camp Wednesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Vargas was slated to join the White Sox for big-league spring training as a non-roster invitee, but visa issues prevented him from getting into a Cactus League game before Chicago reassigned him. With the Triple-A season not starting until May, Vargas will still have plenty of time to build up for game action once he arrives at minor-league camp.

Vargas was sidelined since mid-May with biceps tendinitis, but he returned to action Thursday after three rehab outings with the AZL D-backs. The 22-year-old has a 5.49 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 38:5 K:BB over 39.1 innings with Jackson this season.
