Top Ricky Karcher News

  • Ricky Karcher: Cut loose by Arizona

The Diamondbacks released Karcher on Sunday.

Karcher made his MLB debut out of the Cincinnati bullpen last June before being pushed off the 40-man roster a month later. He caught on with the Diamondbacks on a minor-league deal in November, but he never built much momentum for a spot in the Opening Day bullpen before he was assigned to Reno during spring training. Karcher struggled mightily over his 21 outings with Reno prior to his release, posting a 8.46 ERA and 31:31 K:BB in 22.1 innings.

  • Diamondbacks' Ricky Karcher: Signs with Arizona

Karcher signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on Nov. 17.

The right-hander made one appearance with the Reds in 2023 but spent nearly all of the season at Triple-A Louisville, posting a 4.77 ERA and 70:72 K:BB across 60.1 innings. Karcher figures to begin 2024 at Triple-A Reno.

  • Ricky Karcher: Becomes free agent

Karcher elected free agency Tuesday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Karcher, 26, appeared in only one game at the MLB level in 2023 and registered an ugly 4.77 ERA, 1.87 WHIP and 70:72 K:BB across 60.1 innings of relief with Triple-A Louisville.

  • Reds' Ricky Karcher: Remains in organization

Karchar cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Monday.

The reliever is no longer on the 40-man roster but will remain in the Reds' organization. Karchar made one scoreless appearance with the Reds last month and has struggled mightily with his control with more walks than strikeouts this season at Louisville.

  • Reds' Ricky Karcher: Designated for assignment

Karcher was designated for assignment by the Reds on Thursday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Tony Santillan (back/hamstring) has been activated off the 60-day injured list to fill the vacated 40-man roster spot. Karcher earned a save last month in his major-league debut, but he was sent back to Triple-A Louisville soon after and has struggled to a 7.18 ERA over 31.1 innings of relief this summer in the International League.

  • Reds' Ricky Karcher: Optioned to Triple-A

Karcher was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday.

Karcher will return to Louisville after he tossed a scoreless 10th inning on his way to a save in his major-league debut during Monday's 5-4 victory over the Royals. The 25-year-old walked one batter without allowing a hit, but he'll ultimately head back to Louisville, where he's produced an inflated 9.27 ERA and 2.58 WHIP with a 13.8 BB/9 over 22.1 innings in 22 appearances.

  • Reds' Ricky Karcher: Secures save in MLB debut

Karcher picked up the save in Monday's 5-4 victory over Kansas City, tossing a scoreless inning in which he allowed zero hits and one walk. He didn't record a strikeout.

Alexis Diaz worked the previous two days, and Buck Farmer pitched 1.2 innings to send the game into the 10th inning, so the freshly recalled Karcher got the save opportunity Monday in his first MLB appearance. The 25-year-old walked the first batter he faced but retired three straight to end the game. Karcher has electric stuff, but he's had trouble commanding it at Triple-A Louisville, posting a 9.27 ERA and 31:34 K:BB over 22.1 innings.

  • Reds' Ricky Karcher: Summoned to big leagues

Karcher was recalled from Triple-A Louisville on Friday.

Karcher was added to the 40-man roster over the offseason and will now get a chance to make his major-league debut. The 25-year-old has big stuff but often doesn't know where it's going, posting a 9.27 ERA and 31:34 K:BB over 22.1 innings with Louisville.
