Pirates' Jake Mangum: Sent packing to Pittsburgh
The Pirates acquired Mangum from the Rays on Friday in a three-team trade, Chandler Rome and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic report.
Mangum had a successful rookie season in 2025 with the Rays, slashing .296/.330/.368 with three home runs and 27 stolen bases. He'll turn 30 in March but is under team control through 2030. Mangum could be the favorite to open the 2026 season as the Pirates' starting left fielder, and he's capable of handling all three outfield spots.

Rays' Jake Mangum: Closing season well
Mangum went 3-for-5 on Thursday against the Orioles.
Mangum is closing the season well, recording multiple hits in three of his last seven games. He also tallied his third homer Wednesday, his first since July 2. Given Mangum's strong defense in the outfield and his passable performance at the plate, he should be in line to compete for playing time in 2026.

Rays' Jake Mangum: Three hits Saturday
Mangum went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI on Saturday against the Red Sox.
Mangum delivered an RBI double in the fourth inning en route to his sixth multi-hit game across 16 starts in September. He's hit .373 for the month, while also chipping in six stolen bases. Mangum doesn't provide much production in terms of power, but he's been an excellent source of batting average and stolen bases across 403 plate appearances for the campaign.

Rays' Jake Mangum: Getting Wednesday off
Mangum is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Mangum will take a seat Wednesday after he went 0-for-8 with a walk and a stolen base in the first two contests of the series. Chandler Simpson will shift over from left field to cover Mangum's usual spot in center.

Rays' Jake Mangum: Swipes 25th base
Mangum went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Monday's 2-1 extra-innings loss to the Blue Jays.
The Tampa Bay outfielder nabbed second off Toronto reliever Jeff Hoffman in the ninth to become the third Rays player to reach the 25-steal mark this season (following Jose Caballero and Chandler Simpson). Since the All-Star break, Mangum has been a regular in the lineup, playing roughly 85 percent of the time (45 out of the team's 53 games) and hitting .273 (41-for-150) with 12 stolen bases, 13 runs scored and eight RBI. Overall, he is now slashing .295/.332/.363 with 36 runs scored and 36 RBI in 387 plate appearances.

Rays' Jake Mangum: Taking seat Sunday
Mangum is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.
Mangum started the previous five games but will take a seat for Sunday's series finale in Chicago. Barring an appearance off the bench, the 29-year-old's nine-game hit streak, during which he has a .406/.441/.438 slash line, will be put on pause.

Rays' Jake Mangum: Tallies 23rd stolen base
Mangum went 1-for-3 with a stolen base Saturday against the Guardians.
Mangum was also caught attempting to steal home in the seventh inning. He has been aggressive on the basepaths for the last few weeks, as seven of his 23 stolen bases for the season have come in his last 16 starts. Mangum has also hit very well in that span, batting .393 with four RBI, five doubles and seven runs scored.

Rays' Jake Mangum: Swipes bag in three-hit game
Mangum went 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 10-2 win over the Mariners.
Mangum has hit well lately, going 12-for-23 (.522) over his last six games. Despite the hot bat, he's still confined to a strong-side platoon role for the Rays, primarily sharing center field with Everson Pereira. Mangum is up to 21 steals on 25 attempts this season, and he's added a .291/.324/.364 slash line with two home runs, 34 RBI, 34 runs scored, 16 doubles and one triple through 344 plate appearances.

Rays' Jake Mangum: Taking seat Sunday
Mangum is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Unless he's used off the bench Sunday, Mangum will put his four-game hitting streak on hold and get a breather as the Rays wrap up their series in Washington. Everson Pereira will spell Mangum in center field and bat sixth.

Rays' Jake Mangum: Sitting versus southpaw
Mangum is absent from the lineup for Friday's game against the Nationals.
Mangum has now been out of the lineup each of the last three times the Rays have faced a left-handers (in this case, Mitchell Parker) and four of the last seven games overall. Everson Pereira will patrol center field for Tampa Bay.

Rays' Jake Mangum: Giving way to Pereira vs. lefty
Mangum is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
Mangum is a switch hitter, but he's been far more effective against right-handed pitching (.769 OPS in 228 plate appearances) than lefties (.451 OPS in 100 plate appearances) this season. He'll cede the start in center field to Everson Pereira while the Cardinals send Matthew Liberatore to the hill.

Rays' Jake Mangum: Fills box score in win
Mangum went 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI, a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 10-6 win over the Cardinals.
The four-hit game was Mangum's third of the season, and it was just his second contest of the year with multiple extra-base hits. The speedy switch hitter is a strong source of steals -- he has 20 stolen bases over 311 at-bats -- but he's provided very little in the way of power in 2025. Mangum is hitting .283 with two home runs, 14 doubles, 34 RBI and 32 runs scored across 90 outings.
