  • Reds' James Marinan: Pitching again at High-A

Marinan (oblique) has allowed seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and three walks while striking out two across six innings in five appearances for High-A Dayton since being reinstated from the 7-day injured list Aug. 6.

Marinan spent just over the minimum amount of time on the IL with a right oblique strain. The right-handed reliever owns an 8.76 ERA and 1.92 WHIP over 50.1 innings for Dayton this season.

  • Reds' James Marinan: Out with oblique strain

High-A Dayton placed Marinan on its 7-day injured list Tuesday with a right oblique strain.

Marinan had a spot on the Reds' 40-man roster to begin the season, but he was designated for assignment in June and stayed in the organization after clearing waivers. He's endured a rough season at Dayton (8.73 ERA and 1.93 WHIP in 44.1 innings), and the oblique strain now represents another setback in his development.

  • Reds' James Marinan: Stays in organization

Marinan cleared waivers Thursday and was outrighted to High-A Dayton, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Cincinnati designated Marinan for assignment over the weekend, but he'll remain in the organization after none of the other 29 MLB teams opted to add the 23-year-old right-hander to their 40-man roster. Marinan will thus head back to Dayton, with whom he's produced an 8.02 ERA, 1.72 WHIP and 34:16 K:BB across 33.2 innings this season.

  • Reds' James Marinan: Designated for assignment

Marinan was designated for assignment Saturday.

Marinan was added to Cincinnati's 40-man roster over the offseason, but the team decided to remove him from the list to open up a spot for waiver claim Stuart Fairchild.

  • Reds' James Marinan: Moved to Double-A

The Reds optioned Marinan to Double-A Chattanooga on Thursday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Along with Marinan, Cincinnati optioned outfielder Allan Cerda and right-hander Jared Solomon to Chattanooga in the latest round of roster cuts. Even though Cincinnati chose to protect Marinin from the Rule 5 draft this winter by adding him to the 40-man roster, the 23-year-old is unlikely to reach the big leagues in 2022. He split time between Low-A Daytona and High-A Dayton last season, logging a collective 4.31 ERA and 63:41 K:BB in 64.2 innings.

  • Reds' James Marinan: Added to 40-man roster

Marinan had his contract selected by the Reds on Friday.

Marinan will join Cincinnati's 40-man roster in order to protect him from the upcoming Rule 5 draft. The 23-year-old spent most of 2021 at Low-A Daytona, where he posted a 5.30 ERA over 52.2 innings, though he also made two starts for High-A Dayton.
