Jake Thompson: Selected by Red Sox
The Red Sox have selected Thompson with the 131st overall pick in the 2017 first-year player draft.
The 6-foot-2 right-hander had a 4.62 career ERA coming into this season, but Thompson has broken out as a redshirt junior for the Beavers. He led all of Division I with 13 wins, while also posting a stellar 1.31 ERA. Thompson features a low-90s heater with movement, and an above-average slider. Thompson didn't strike out a ton of batters, though, and he needs to develop a third pitch, most likely a changeup, in order to succeed as a starter as a professional. Still, it is difficult to argue with his production this season.
