The 29-year-old outfielder lost his 40-man roster spot Sunday following Blake Perkins' return from the IL, but the former will officially stick with the organization after passing through waivers. Avans will now be placed on waivers after being dropped from Milwaukee's 40-man roster. If he goes unclaimed, he'll remain with Triple-A Nashville, where he's produced a .261 average with two home runs, 12 RBI, 16 runs scored and 12 stolen bases over 23 contests this year. The 28-year-old has been productive through 47 games at Triple-A this year with four homers, 16 steals and a .328/.410/.446 slash line, and he'll now receive his first taste of the majors. Prospect Denzel Clarke has taken over as the Athletics' primary center fielder after JJ Bleday was demoted last week, so there could be a path to playing time for Avans if Clarke is unable to lock down the job.
