Red Sox's Jake Bennett: Likely to make debut this weekend
Bennett "seems likely" to make his major-league debut Friday versus Houston, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
The Red Sox have not yet announced their probable pitcher for Friday's contest against the Astros, but Bennett was scratched from his most recent scheduled start for Triple-A Worcester and appears poised to step in as a replacement for Garrett Crochet (shoulder). Acquired via trade from the Nationals over the offseason, Bennett has permitted just three runs (two earned) with a 16:3 K:BB over his first 21 innings with Worcester this season. He's already on the 40-man roster and would be making his major-league debut if he does indeed draw a start versus Houston.

Red Sox's Jake Bennett: Bound for minor-league camp
The Red Sox optioned Bennett to minor-league camp Monday.
Bennett had drawn positive buzz during his first spring training with the Red Sox after coming over in a trade with the Nationals over the winter, but the 25-year-old lefty never appeared likely to break camp with the big club. After Bennett turned in a 2.56 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 33:11 K:BB in 45.2 innings at Double-A Harrisburg upon being promoted following the All-Star break, the Red Sox could have him open the upcoming season in the Triple-A Worcester rotation.

Red Sox's Jake Bennett: Impressing in Red Sox camp
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that Bennett has been "impressive" so far in camp, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Pitching coach Andrew Bailey has also liked what he's seen so far from the left-handed Bennett, saying "there's a ton to dream on there." Acquired from the Nationals in December for Luis Perales, Bennett held a 2.27 ERA and 64:19 K:BB over 75.1 innings covering three levels in 2025 in his first year back from Tommy John surgery. The Red Sox have a potential need in left-handed relief but will keep Bennett stretched out as a starter in the minors to begin the 2026 season.

Red Sox's Jake Bennett: Dealt to Boston
Bennett was traded from the Nationals to the Red Sox on Monday in exchange for Luis Perales, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Bennett pitched well during the 2025 season in his first year back since Tommy John surgery, posting a 2.56 ERA and 1.13 WHIP with 33 strikeouts across 45.2 innings at Double-A. He's yet to pitch above the Double-A level, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see him begin the 2026 campaign in Portland now that he's joined Boston's farm system. Chief baseball officer for the Red Sox, Craig Breslow, is clearly high on the southpaw. "We feel like Bennett is a high probability starter that excels in some things that are hard to teach," said Breslow, per Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com. "Fastball playability driven by above average extension and strike throwing ability. His whiff rates and ability to manage hard contact have us confident in his ability to be a major league starter."

The Nationals selected Bennett's contract from Double-A Harrisburg on Tuesday.
After missing the 2024 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, Bennett held a 2.27 ERA and 64:19 K:BB over 75.1 innings covering three levels in 2025. The left-hander is now protected from next month's Rule 5 Draft.

Nationals' Jake Bennett: Active at High-A
Bennett gave up three runs on two hits and two walks while striking out four over three innings in his first start of the year for High-A Wilmington on Sunday.
Bennett, who underwent Tommy John surgery in September of 2023, made two rehab starts for Single-A Fredericksburg in early May, logging a 1.50 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 7:0 K:BB in six innings. The 6-foot-6 lefty will likely get the bump to Double-A sometime this summer if he's holding his own, as he is already 24.

Nationals' Jake Bennett: Ready for rehab start
Bennett (elbow) is scheduled to make a rehab start with Single-A Fredericksburg on Thursday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
The upcoming outing will mark Bennett's first appearance in affiliated ball since August 2023. The 24-year-old southpaw missed the entire 2024 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery and currently resides on High-A Wilmington's 7-day injured list, but he may require just one or two starts with Fredericksburg before reporting to the Nationals' South Atlantic League affiliate.

Nationals' Jake Bennett: Undergoes Tommy John surgery
Bennett underwent Tommy John surgery on his left elbow last week, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
Bennett has been out of action at High-A Wilmington since late August, and the surgery will keep him out through the entire 2024 campaign. The 2022 second-round draft pick logged a 3.29 ERA and 1.21 WHIP across 63 innings between Single-A and High-A prior to the injury, and he is expected to be ready for the start of 2025.
