  • Athletics' Norge Ruiz: Sent to Triple-A

Ruiz was outrighted to Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The right-hander finished the season in the majors but won't stick on the 40-man roster through the offseason. Ruiz appeared in 14 games out of the bullpen last season and had a 7.11 ERA, 1.95 WHIP and 18:7 K:BB over 19 innings.

  • Athletics' Norge Ruiz: Takes first loss Thursday

Ruiz (0-1) was charged with the loss and a blown save Thursday against the Nationals, allowing four runs (three earned) on two hits and a walk over two-thirds of an inning. He struck out one.

Handed a 5-3 lead when he entered in the 10th inning, Ruiz ultimately surrendered a game-winning three-run home run to Joey Meneses after conceding an RBI single to Keibert Ruiz earlier in the frame. It was the latest big-league debacle for the Athletics' rookie reliever, who's now allowed at least three earned runs in three of his first four appearances with Oakland since making his debut Aug. 19.

  • Athletics' Norge Ruiz: Back in big leagues

Ruiz was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Ruiz was sent down by Oakland late last week, but he'll rejoin the Athletics' bullpen following a brief stint in the minors. Over his first three major-league appearances, he's given up seven runs on 15 hits and a walk while striking out nine in six innings.

  • Athletics' Norge Ruiz: Sent down Friday

Ruiz was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday.

Ruiz spent the last week in Oakland's bullpen but gave up seven runs (five earned) on 14 hits and a walk while striking out nine in six innings over three appearances. The right-hander will head back to the minors after Jared Koenig was recalled by the Athletics on Friday.

  • Athletics' Norge Ruiz: Contract selected by Oakland

Ruiz had his contract selected by the A's on Friday.

Ruiz has a 4.05 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 38:15 K:BB across 40 innings for Triple-A Las Vegas this season, and he'll now get his first taste of the big leagues. The 28-year-old should operate as a low-leverage reliever.

  • Athletics' Norge Ruiz: Sent to minor-league camp

Ruiz was reassigned to minor-league camp Sunday, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.

Ruiz made it to Triple-A in 2018 for the first time in his career, although he didn't have much success. He posted a 6.75 ERA with 10 strikeouts over 13.1 frames (two starts). After being cut from big-league camp, he could begin 2019 with either Double-A Midland or Triple-A Las Vegas.

  • Athletics' Norge Ruiz: Working back from elbow soreness

Ruiz gave up two runs in six innings in major-league spring training games with six strikeouts. He was eased back into action after finishing the 2017 season with elbow discomfort, OaklandClubhouse reports.

Ruiz was a disappointment last season after the former top prospect in Cuba signed with Oakland. He had a 5.17 ERA with just a 24:12 K:BB ratio in 34.2 innings at High-A despite being much older than most of his competition. Still, it may have taken him awhile to adjust to the U.S. and an injured elbow could have been a factor. He's a prospect to watch to see if he rebounds dramatically in 2018. He'll likely begin the season again at High-A.
