Orioles' Houston Roth: Booted from 40-man roster
The Orioles designated Roth for assignment Monday.
The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Jose Espada, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Norfolk. Roth received his first big-league call-up in late July but didn't make his MLB debut before the Orioles optioned him back to Norfolk. He's posted a 2.08 ERA and 42:19 K:BB over 39 innings between Norfolk and Double-A Chesapeake this season, so Roth could draw some interest on waivers.
