Padres' Reggie Lawson: Outrighted to Triple-A
Lawson was outrighted to Triple-A El Paso on Friday.
Lawson missed the early part of the year while recovering from Tommy John surgery and ended up tossing just 6.2 innings in Double-A, giving up 10 runs. He was considered at least a fringe prospect in the past, which could make him appealing in the Rule 5 draft, but he doesn't have much of a resume as a professional, posting a career 5.21 ERA in 233 minor-league innings.

Padres' Reggie Lawson: Healthy again after TJ surgery
Lawson (elbow) was cleared to make his season debut for Double-A San Antonio last week and has thus far made two starts with the affiliate, giving up an earned run on three hits and a walk in 3.1 innings between the outings.
The Padres have eased Lawson back into game action with limited pitch counts, but he otherwise looks to be fully healthy again after undergoing Tommy John surgery in March 2020. The 23-year-old right-hander will likely spend the majority of the season at Double-A.

Padres' Reggie Lawson: Sent to Double-A
Lawson (elbow) was optioned to Double-A San Antonio on Wednesday.
Lawson had been throwing bullpen sessions at big-league camp to begin spring training, but he'll now continue his rehab with the minor-league group. The right-hander underwent Tommy John surgery in March 2020 and should miss significant time to begin the season.

Padres' Reggie Lawson: Throwing bullpen sessions
Lawson (elbow) has been tossing bullpen sessions as he continues to recover from Tommy John surgery, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
Lawson has been limited almost exclusively to fastballs thus far, but the fact that he has been able to pitch off a mound bodes well for his chance of returning to action sometime during the first half of the season. Lawson has yet to pitch above the Double-A level, so he will almost certainly head to the minors when he is ready to return.

Padres' Reggie Lawson: Contract selected
Lawson (elbow) was added to the Padres' 40-man roster Friday.
The move protects Lawson from the Rule 5 draft. He underwent Tommy John surgery back in March, so he'll likely miss a fair portion of the 2021 campaign. The Padres clearly view him as part of their long-term plans, however, despite the fact that he's never pitched above Double-A and owns a career 5.09 ERA in 226.1 total minor-league innings.

Padres' Reggie Lawson: Undergoes Tommy John surgery
Lawson underwent Tommy John surgery on Friday.
Lawson suffered the injury during a spring training contest. Given a typical recovery timeline, he now won't return to action until the middle of the 2021 season. The 22-year-old made six starts at the Double-A level last season, recording a 5.20 ERA but a strong 29.8 percent strikeout rate.
