  • Heat's Klay Thompson: Drains three treys Wednesday

Thompson tallied 10 points (3-6 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 1-1 FT) and a rebound across 16 minutes in Wednesday's 131-106 loss to the Timberwolves.

Thompson made three triples but offered virtually nothing outside the scoring column, highlighting his increasingly specialized fantasy profile. His 16-minute workload was particularly concerning, as limited playing time can make it hard to generate consistent three-point production, especially since three bench players (Bobby Portis, Nikola Jovic and Pelle Larsson) played 20-plus minutes. Unless his minutes increase considerably, Thompson could struggle to provide reliable fantasy value beyond occasional perimeter shooting.

  • Heat's Klay Thompson: Ice cold in preseason loss

Thompson finished with zero points (0-7 FG, 0-6 3Pt), three assists and one rebound in 15 minutes during Friday's 136-115 preseason loss to the Magic.

Thompson rounded out what has been a poor preseason, missing all seven of his shot attempts. While he will almost certainly be better than this on most nights, the simple fact is that Thompson's days of being a viable fantasy asset are well and truly behind him. For a player with little to no upside, Thompson is still being drafted in standard leagues, which seems illogical.

  • Heat's Klay Thompson: Notches 12 points

Thompson finished with 12 points (5-10 FG, 2-7 3Pt), one rebound and one block across 23 minutes in Wednesday's 144-128 preseason win over the Nets.

Thompson started alongside Davion Mitchell in Miami's backcourt but struggled to find his rhythm from deep, missing five of seven three-point attempts. He still reached double figures by converting three shots inside the arc. The veteran's perimeter shooting remains his primary fantasy appeal, though his contributions outside the scoring column were minimal Wednesday.

  • Heat's Klay Thompson: In line to play

Thompson (rest) is in line to play in Wednesday's preseason game against the Nets, Will Manso of Local 10 Miami reports.

Miami intends to deploy most of its starters for this exhibition. The veteran sharpshooter should receive some playing time in the first half.

  • Heat's Klay Thompson: Resting Saturday

Thompson (rest) is out for Saturday's preseason game against the Timberwolves, Eric Nehm of The Athletic reports.

The 36-year-old vet will receive a maintenance day Saturday, but he should be back in action for Wednesday's preseason meeting with the Nets. Tim Hardaway should be more involved in the rotation Saturday with Thompson unavailable.

  • Heat's Klay Thompson: Held scoreless in preseason opener

Thompson recorded zero points (0-2 FG, 0-1 3Pt) and two rebounds across 13 minutes in Saturday's 129-105 preseason win over the Raptors.

Thompson only played in the first half of Saturday's contest and didn't offer much in his preseason debut for the Heat. He started Miami's preseason opener and is the favorite to get the starting nod at shooting guard when the regular season begins.

  • Heat's Klay Thompson: Favorite to start?

Thompson is the clear front-runner to open the season as Miami's starting shooting guard, Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald reports.

While the Heat are expected to hold a competition for the job during the preseason, Thompson's floor-spacing ability makes him a natural fit alongside Bam Adebayo and Giannis Antetokounmpo. The veteran sharpshooter made 38.3 percent on 7.6 three-point attempts per game with Dallas last regular season and has converted 38.7 percent from deep over the past three regular seasons.

  • Heat's Klay Thompson: Officially agrees to deal with Heat

Thompson cleared waivers and officially agreed to a two-year, $11.5 million contract with the Heat on Sunday, Sam Amick and Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic report.

Miami acquired Giannis Antetokounmpo this offseason, but the Heat are now adding Thompson in hopes of bolstering the team's chances of winning another championship. The 2011 No. 11 overall pick is coming off his worst season, averaging 11.7 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists across 21.7 minutes, all career lows, in 69 regular-season games with the Mavericks. It's unlikely that Thompson will return to All-Star form with the Heat, considering he will turn 37 during the 2026-27 campaign. Regardless of his role, Thompson should have an opportunity to be much more productive than he was in Dallas, especially since his shooting acumen will provide spacing for Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo.

  • Heat's Klay Thompson: Reaches buyout with Mavs, signing with Heat

The Mavericks announced Friday they have reached a buyout agreement with Thompson, who's expected to sign with the Heat after he clears waivers, per Shams Charania of ESPN.

Thompson's status had been in limbo this offseason, so it's not overly surprising to see him and Dallas part ways. The veteran sharpshooter is coming off perhaps the worst season of his career, ending with career-low averages of 11.7 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 2.9 three-pointers in 21.7 minutes per game through 69 regular-season appearances (eight starts). Despite that, Miami appears to have quickly swooped in to secure Thompson's services as a three-and-D presence with championship experience.
