Alessandro Gentile: Not joining Houston for camp
Updating a previous report, Gentile hasn't signed a contract with the Rockets and isn't included on the team's training camp roster, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports.
A report from EuroHoops.net surfaced in August suggesting that Gentile would join the Rockets for training camp, but it appears the swingman never put pen to paper on a contract with the team that has owned his NBA rights since 2014. Per Feigen, Gentile recently underwent surgery on his hand, which may have nixed a potential deal with Houston. Gentile will presumably spend the upcoming campaign in Italy before perhaps entertaining a move to the NBA in 2019-20.

Rockets' Alessandro Gentile: Joining Houston for training camp
Gentile will sign a training camp contract with the Rockets, EuroHoops.net reports.
A second-round pick by the Rockets back in 2014, Gentile has played for a plethora of teams in Europe in recent years, but is coming off a 2017-18 campaign with Virtus Lavoro Bologna of the Italian Lega Basket Serie A. In 23 games, Gentile posted averages of 16.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.1 steals across 29.8 minutes. He'll now look to make the jump to the NBA, but he'll need to have an impressive training camp and preseason to have any chance at making the final roster. At this point, Gentile appears to be a long shot for a spot.

Alessandro Gentile: Set to play for Italian team in 2016-17
Gentile is listed as a roster member of Pallacanestro Olimpia Milano of the Italian Serie A Basketball League for the 2016-17 season, Sportando reports.
Gentile stated earlier this offseason that he hoped to join the Rockets, who acquired his rights on draft day in 2014, for the upcoming campaign, but it doesn't look like the team is interested in bringing him over to the NBA just yet. The 23-year-old was one of Milano's top stars during their six Euroleague games last season, averaging 20.0 points, 4.2 assists and 3.5 rebounds over 30.2 minutes per game.

Alessandro Gentile: Wants to play in Houston next season
Gentile hopes to play for the Rockets during the 2016-17 season, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports. "My goal is to play in the NBA next year," Gentile said. "I really hope this can happen. For me, [new Rockets coach] Mike D'Antoni is like a legend in Italian basketball, an example for everyone. For him to coach me would be very, very nice."
The 23-year-old Gentile was a second-round pick of the Timberwolves in 2014 before his rights were traded to the Rockets shortly after draft night. Since that time, the 6-foot-7 Gentile has developed into one of the top players in the Euroleague and is highly regarded for his scoring instincts and three-point shooting. The interest in bringing Gentile to North America seems to be mutual, as the Rockets plan to try and carve out some cap space for the Italian wing once they've landed their primary free-agent targets in July. If that materializes, Gentile could become a rotation player for the Rockets in 2016-17.
