76ers' Paul Reed: Retained by Philadelphia
Reed will remain with Philadelphia after the 76ers matched his three-year, $23 million offer sheet with the Jazz on Sunday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
Reed, a restricted free agent, came to terms with the Jazz on the deal on Saturday, but the 76ers didn't take long to match the agreement. The contract also states the Sixers must guarantee the last two years of Reed's deal if they win the opening round of playoffs this season. Reed averaged 4.2 points and 3.8 rebounds as a backup to Joel Embiid last season, and he'll likely fill that role again in 2022-23. However, with the 76ers bringing in seven-footer Mo Bamba on a one-year deal this offseason, it's possible that the undersized Reed exits the rotation in certain matchups when Philadelphia wants a bigger center on the court.

The Jazz signed Reed to a three-year, $23 million contract Saturday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

The 76ers extended a qualifying offer to Reed on Wednesday, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports.
After receiving the qualifying offer from the team, Reed officially becomes a restricted free agent. Reed filled the role of backup center for Philadelphia in 2022-23, appearing in a career-high 69 regular-season games and averaging 4.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocks/steals over 10.9 minutes. The highlight of his campaign came in the playoffs, where he stepped into the starting lineup in place of Joel Embiid for a pair of games and posted back-to-back double-doubles on a combined 8-of-12 shooting from the field.

Reed double-doubled in both of his starts filling in for Joel Embiid, who was dealing with a sprained right knee. However, with Embiid cleared for Game 2 action, Reed will return to the second unit. Reed averaged 6.3 points and 4.3 rebounds across 11.3 minutes in his three playoff appearances with the reserves and should handle a similar workload Wednesday.
