  • Jazz's Nickeil Alexander-Walker: Back in bench role

    Alexander-Walker isn't starting Monday's game against Brooklyn.

Alexander-Walker nabbed two starts in the absence of Mike Conley, but he'll head back to a bench role Monday evening with Conley back in action. The Virginia Tech product is averaging 4.4 minutes, 1.8 rebounds and 1.0 assists in his last 10 games as a reserve.

  • Jazz's Nickeil Alexander-Walker: Draws start Friday

Alexander-Walker is starting Friday's game against the Clippers, Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints.com reports.

Alexander-Walker totaled 16 points, four rebounds and two steals in 22 minutes during Wednesday's win over Chicago, and he'll start for the shorthanded Jazz on Friday. Jordan Clarkson should also see plenty of playing time against the Clippers.

  • Jazz's Nickeil Alexander-Walker: Not in rotation with Jazz

Alexander-Walker has been a DNP-CD in each of the Jazz's last three games.

Alexander-Walker arrived in Utah shortly before the trade deadline after being re-routed from Portland, but the 2019 first-round pick has not been a part of Utah's regular rotation. He appeared in each of his first two games with the Jazz but logged just five total minutes in garbage time. Barring an injury or two to the Utah backcourt, Alexander-Walker will likely remain on the fringes of the rotation for the remainder of the regular season.

  • Trail Blazers' Nickeil Alexander-Walker: Bound for Portland

The Trail Blazers agreed Tuesday to acquire Alexander-Walker, Josh Hart, Tomas Satoransky, Didi Louzada (knee), a 2022 protected first-round pick and two future second-round picks from the Pelicans in exchange for CJ McCollum, Larry Nance (knee) and Tony Snell, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

A popular sleeper heading into fantasy drafts this season, Alexander-Walker opened the season in a starting role for New Orleans, but a string of wretched shooting performances resulted in a move to the second unit. He came off the bench in 31 of his last 32 appearances and averaged 11.8 points, 2.9 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.8 three-pointers in 24.2 minutes per contest, but Alexander-Walker still only shot 37.6 percent from the field and 69.1 percent from the free-throw line. Though the 23-year-old hasn't provided much evidence that he's worthy of a big-minute role at the NBA level, the rebuilding Trail Blazers will likely give him an extended look over the final few months of the season to see if he's worthy of including in their long-term nucleus. The 2019 first-round pick is under contract through next season after the Pelicans exercised his $5.01 million team option for 2022-23 in October. With the trade not yet finalized, Alexander-Walker likely won't be available for Portland's game Tuesday against the Magic, but he could be ready to debut for his new team Wednesday versus the Lakers.

  • Jazz's Nickeil Alexander-Walker: Dealt to Jazz

The Jazz acquired Alexander-Walker and Juancho Hernangomez on Wednesday as part of a three-team deal involving the Trail Blazers and Spurs, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Portland will acquire Joe Ingles (knee), Elijah Hughes and a future second-round pick, while the Spurs will acquire Tomas Satoransky and a future second-round pick.

Alexander-Walker was traded from the Pelicans to the Trail Blazers on Tuesday, but he'll be on the move once again without ever playing for Portland. The 23-year-old served mainly in a bench role for New Orleans since mid-November, and he'll likely provide an additional depth option behind Donovan Mitchell and Mike Conley in Utah's backcourt. Across his 31 appearances off the bench this year, Alexander-Walker has averaged 11.1 points, 2.9 assists and 2.5 rebounds in 23.8 minutes per game. While the three teams wait for all players involved in the deal to pass physicals, Alexander-Walker likely won't be available to make his Jazz debut Wednesday against the Warriors, but he should be ready to play Friday versus the Magic.

  • Pelicans' Nickeil Alexander-Walker: Scores 14 points off bench

Alexander-Walker registered 14 points (5-11 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 2-3 FT), one rebound, two assists, one block and two steals over 19 minutes during Tuesday's 111-101 victory over the Pistons.

Josh Hart (knee) was out again, but the Pelicans opted to go big by starting Jaxson Hayes alongside Jonas Valanciunas, which left Alexander-Walker and Jose Alvarado to compete off the bench. Both backup guards played well, but the former was able to finish with better overall production. As a reserve this season (29 games), Alexander-Walker is averaging 11.2 points, 2.9 assists and 2.5 rebounds in 24.1 minutes per game.
