NFL Combine: This kicker ran a faster 40 than 10 receivers, 5 running backs
Apparently, some kickers can do more than kick.
If any NFL teams are looking for a kicker who has lightning speed during this year's draft, then they only have one option: Iowa's Marshall Koehn.
The former Hawkeye showed off his blazing speed at the combine over the weekend when he ran a 4.61 in the 40-yard dash. That's not just fast for a kicker either, that's fast for every position.
Not only was Koehn's time better than every single tight end at the combine, but it was also better than 10 of the wide receivers who were in Indy and five running backs.
The former Iowa kicker also finished with the fastest 40-time time since 2006, which is as far back as the NFL's online records go.
This guy is a special teams coach's dream. Think of the possibilities:
- You could run a fake field goal on every play.
- You could run a fake field goal reverse to your kicker.
- You could run a fake field goal Hail Mary, with your kicker as the primary receiver.
- You could run a regular Hail Mary with your kicker as your primary receiver -- I have no clue why any team would ever do that. I'm just spit-balling here because I don't want to see this guy's talent go to waste.
Actually, Adidas is already making sure that doesn't happen. The shoe company gave Koehn $10,000 for running the fastest 40 in his position group.

To be honest, that was probably the easiest $10,000 that Koehn's ever made because there was only one other kicker at the combine who ran the 40 (Liberty's John Lunsford ran a 4.71).
Anyway, Koehn's biggest problem going into the draft is that NFL teams don't care about a kicker's 40 time, and it shows in his draft ranking. According to NFLDraftScout.com, Koehn is the ninth best draft available kicker this year.
We do know he can kick though. Just check out this 57-yarder Koehn hit against Pitt in September.
