  • Steelers' Joshua Dobbs: Hits injured reserve

The Steelers placed Dobbs (toe) on injured reserve Tuesday, Ed Bouchette of The Athletic reports.

Dobbs is dealing with a toe injury, and the timing of the transaction rules him out for the 2021 season, barring an injury settlement. For the time being, the Steelers have both Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins on the roster behind Ben Roethlisberger.

  • Steelers' Joshua Dobbs: Picks up toe injury

Dobbs sustained a toe injury during Friday's preseason loss at Carolina, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.

Dobbs didn't get on the field until the Steelers' second drive of the second half, entering the game after a miserable performance from Dwayne Haskins. During his four drives, Dobbs went 6-for-11 for 35 passing yards and had a 12-yard carry before exiting and handing the offense back to Haskins. According to coach Mike Tomlin, Dobbs may have a turf toe injury, which, if diagnosed as such, could keep the fifth-year pro sidelined for some time and give Haskins a direct path to the No. 3 QB job behind Ben Roethlisberger and Mason Rudolph.

  • Steelers' Joshua Dobbs: Slated to finish second half again

Dobbs will close out the second half of Thursday's preseason game against Philadelphia, Chris Adamski of TribLive.com reports.

Dobbs also worked behind Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against Dallas, and he ranked third among the quarterbacks by playing 29 percent of the team's offensive snaps. The 26-year-old completed four of his six passes for 37 yards, and he tossed the only passing touchdown of the game.

  • Steelers' Joshua Dobbs: Throws late touchdown

Dobbs completed four of six passes for 37 yards and a touchdown in the Steelers' 16-3 preseason win over the Cowboys in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game.

Dobbs entered the game in the fourth quarter behind Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins. Although the 2017 fourth-rounder saw the least work of the trio, he was the only quarterback to pass for a touchdown in the contest. Rudolph and Haskins remain the favorites to land a spot on Pittsburgh's 53-man roster in 2021, but Dobbs kept himself in contention with his effective performance in a limited sample Thursday.

  • Steelers' Joshua Dobbs: Set to finish second half Thursday

Dobbs is expected to finish the second half in Thursday night's Hall of Fame Game against the Cowboys, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Press-Gazette reports.

The Steelers plan to rest Ben Roethlisberger in Thursday's preseason opener, so Dobbs will follow Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins in the exhibition game. The 2017 fourth-rounder has an uphill climb to secure a spot on the 53-man roster while competing against Rudolph and Haskins, who both have more in-game experience than Dobbs.

  • Steelers' Joshua Dobbs: Stays with Steelers

Dobbs signed a one-year deal with the Steelers on Wednesday, Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

The 2017 fourth-round pick returns to Pittsburgh to fill a depth role behind veteran starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. He'll be competing with Dwayne Haskins and Mason Rudolph for the top backup job heading into 2021.

  • Steelers' Joshua Dobbs: Sees minimal work Sunday

Dobbs completed four of five passes for two yards while rushing twice for 20 yards in Sunday's 24-22 loss to the Browns.

Dobbs saw his first work of the season late in Sunday's matchup, playing nine offensive snaps in the regular-season finale. While he generated some modest production on the ground, he'll revert to his third-string role for the playoffs. If he finds a spot on another roster in 2021, he'll likely serve as a backup once again.

  • Joshua Dobbs: Shockingly waived

Dobbs was waived by the Jaguars on Saturday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Both Dobbs and Mike Glennon were surprisingly jettisoned, leaving just unproven rookie Jake Luton as the only backup behind Gardner Minshew. It's especially shocking considering the Jaguars sent a 2020 fifth-round pick to the Steelers last year in an effort to lock in a secure backup behind then-starter Nick Foles. Both Dobbs and Glennon should receive plenty of interest on the open market, but it seems likely at least one could return back to Jacksonville after a frantic NFL pickup period.

  • Steelers' Joshua Dobbs: Back in Steel City

Dobbs was claimed by the Steelers on Sunday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Dobbs was a surprise cut by the Jaguars on Saturday, but the Tennessee product will reunite with his former club. Dobbs failed to see the field with the Jaguars last campaign, as the team elected to keep rookie Jake Luton as the only backup behind Gardner Minshew. Dobbs will join a crowded quarterback room, with Devlin Hodges and Mason Rudolph joining him as backups to Ben Roethlisberger.

  • Jaguars' Joshua Dobbs: Limited to reserve duty

Dobbs didn't see the field with the Jaguars in 2019.

Dobbs was acquired by the Jaguars from the Steelers after Nick Foles broke his collarbone in the season opener, but rookie Gardner Minshew played extremely well in Foles' absence and eventually took full control of the starting job. All three quarterbacks remain under contract for 2020, potentially leaving Dobbs as the odd man out.
