Ahmad Gooden: Seeking new opportunity
The Jets waived Gooden (illness) on Saturday, per the NFL's official transaction report.
After activating Gooden from the reserve/COVID-19 list, the team immediately placed him on waivers. This is slightly surprising because the Jets don't have intriguing depth at linebacker. The 24-year-old has nearly a month to find a new team before Week 1.

Ahmad Gooden: Waived Saturday
Gooden (illness) was waived by the Jets on Saturday.
It's a bit surprising to see Gooden waived considering the linebacker was expected to be a critical piece of the team's rotation. Complicating matters further is Gooden's placement on the reserve/COVID-19 list, which means the 24-year-old either has or has been near someone who has COVID-19. That designation might not be cleared until he eventually joins another team, but who will pick him up remains to be seen.

Jets' Ahmad Gooden: Placed on COVID-19 list
Gooden was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Gooden, who signed a two-year contract with the Jets late last season, is still expected to be a critical rotational piece for the team's linebacker unit. To do so, Gooden must first pass NFL protocol pertaining COVID-19 first. The reserve/COVID-19 list indicates Gooden either tested positive for COVID-19 or came in contact with someone who did, with the distinction likely dictating the length of his training-camp absence.

Ahmad Gooden: Subject to waivers
The Broncos waived Gooden on Saturday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Gooden spent most of the season on the practice squad before being activated ahead of Week 12's game against the Bills. The undrafted rookie out of Samford has played in three games, recording one solo tackle. He'll likely land back on the practice squad if he clears waivers.

Broncos' Ahmad Gooden: Promoted from practice squad
The Broncos have signed Gooden to their 53-man roster, Ben Swanson of the team's official website reports.
With Justin Hollins (hamstring) sidelined, Gooden was added to the active roster in order to boost the team's pass-rushing depth. He is also expected to contribute on special teams. After spending the entire season on the practice squad, Sunday could be his first real game action this year.
