Panthers' DeShawn Williams: Following Evero to Carolina

Williams (knee) agreed to a contract with the Panthers on Wednesday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.
Williams is set to rejoin new Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, who held the same role with the Broncos last season. Over 17 regular-season games with Denver in 2022, the 30-year-old defensive tackle logged career highs in sacks (4.5) and defensive snaps (565) to go along with 37 tackles. Williams is expected to provide valuable depth alongside younger defensive tackles Derrick Brown and Shy Tuttle in Carolina.

It remains to be seen how serious Williams' injury is, but it's never a good sign to get hurt just two days before a game. He was still listed as a limited participant in Friday's session. If Williams misses Week 11, Sylvester Williams and McTelvin Agim will rotate in at nose tackle.

Williams was elevated to the Broncos' 53-man roster Thursday, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
Williams hasn't played an NFL game since 2016 with the Bengals, but he spent training camp in 2019 with Denver. With Dre'Mont Jones (knee) sidelined for 4-to-6 weeks, Williams could see a depth role on defense as early as Sunday's game against the Buccaneers.
