  • Eagles' J.J. Arcega-Whiteside: Shifting to tight end

Arcega-Whiteside is moving from wide receiver to tight end this offseason, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

The 2019 second-round pick has struggled to find his footing as a pro, tallying only 16 receptions for 290 yards combined across three seasons. Given the lack of production, Arcega-Whiteside -- who is presumably past the finger injury he dealt with late last season -- was likely to be on the roster bubble heading into the 2022 campaign. While that could remain the case, Arcega-Whiteside may find a spot on the team as a depth option at tight end, particularly with Tyree Jackson attempting to return from a torn ACL.

  • Eagles' J.J. Arcega-Whiteside: Catches two passes in 2021

Arecega-Whiteside (finger) finished the 2021 campaign with two catches on five targets for 36 yards across 16 appearances.

The 2019 second-round pick played double-digit offensive snaps just seven times, including a season-high 40 during the regular-season finale. He failed to haul in any of his three targets during the Week 18 loss to the Cowboys, and he apparently picked up a finger injury during the contest as well, which landed him on injured reserve. His lack of production through his first three NFL seasons may put him on the roster bubble heading into 2022.

  • Eagles' J.J. Arcega-Whiteside: Lands on injured reserve

Arcega Whiteside was placed on injured reserve Monday and is scheduled to undergo finger surgery, Tim McManus of ESPN.com reports.

While Philadelphia was resting several key players for the Week 18 loss to the Cowboys, Arcega-Whiteside played a season-high 40 offensive snaps and failed to catch any of his three targets. After sitting out the requisite three games, Arcega-Whiteside will be eligible to play should the Eagles advance to the Super Bowl, but the recovery timeline for his surgery makes it unlikely he'll be available to play by then. The 25-year-old finished the 2021 campaign with two receptions for 36 yards on five targets over 16 games. His lack of production through his first three NFL seasons will likely put him on the roster bubble heading into 2022.

  • Eagles' J.J. Arcega-Whiteside: No touches against Jets

Arcega-Whiteside played 14 offensive snaps in Sunday's 33-18 win over the Jets.

Arcega-Whiteside had recorded a catch in each of the last two games, but he wasn't targeted in Sunday's Week 13 matchup. The 2019 second-rounder has had a minimal role in Philadelphia's offense this year and has hauled in both of his targets for 36 yards across the first 12 games of the season.

  • Eagles' J.J. Arcega-Whiteside: Plays 14 snaps in loss

Arcega-Whiteside played 14 snaps in Sunday's 13-7 loss to the Giants, catching his lone target for 13 yards.

The 2019 second-round pick was a distant fourth on the receiver depth chart in the game, although his snap count on offense has trended into double-digits in two straight weeks. With Jalen Reagor dropping key passes in the defeat and his star seemingly fading fast, Arcega-Whiteside may start to see more chances sooner rather than later.

  • Eagles' J.J. Arcega-Whiteside: Off injury report

Arcega-Whiteside (ankle) doesn't have an injury designation heading into Sunday's contest against the Broncos.

Arcega-Whiteside missed one game due to the ankle injury, but he will return to action in Week 10. The 2019 second-round wideout has played less than 10 offensive snaps in every game since Week 2 and hasn't caught a single pass all season.
