  • Brandon Burks: Waived by Jets

Burks was waived by the Jets on Wednesday, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.

Burks joined the Jets practice squad midway through the 2016 season and was promoted to the active roster for the team's season finale, recording two carries for minus-four yards in his NFL debut. He had an outside chance of sticking on the 53-man roster heading into 2017, so his release won't leave an lasting effects on the depth chart.

Khiry Robinson (leg) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, opening up a spot for Burks on the depth chart. • Brandon Burks: Released by Packers

Burks was waived by the Packers on Sunday, Michael Cohen of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Burks survived Saturday's final cuts to snag a spot on the Packers' 53-man roster, but the writing was on the wall when the team claimed Jhurell Pressley off waivers Sunday, and Burks was ultimately released. The Packers may look to add him to the practice squad if he clears waivers.

  • Packers' Brandon Burks: Runs for impressive 19-yard touchdown

Burks ran for a 19-yard touchdown after John Crockett (shoulder) left Friday's preseason game against the 49ers, ESPN.com reports.

Crockett's injury may have created an opening for Burks, an undrafted rookie who previously seemed like a better candidate for the practice squad than the active roster. Burks has easily outplayed fellow undrafted rookie Brandon Ross, gaining 89 yards on 19 carries in three preseason games. If Crockett isn't available for the start of the season, Burks could stick on the roster as the No. 3 running back.
