It's promising that he was able to practice Wednesday, albeit in a limited fashion, and the rookie linebacker will have two more days this week to return to full participation. • Browns' Carson Schwesinger: Misses Wednesday's practice

Schwesinger (ankle) won't practice Wednesday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports. Although Schwesinger's injury isn't considered to be "major," he'll likely be held out of the Week 10 matchup against the Jets unless he can upgrade to at least a limited practice session Thursday or Friday.

Schwesinger was hurt midway through the fourth quarter and didn't return. He had a nice game before getting injured, tallying five tackles and an interception. the typical recovery timeline for a high ankle sprain is about four to six weeks, and the results of Schwesinger's MRI should provide some clarity about whether he's at risk of missing time. Schwesinger called defensive plays in team drills on the first day of training camp, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports. The team ruled out Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah (neck) for all of 2025 in May, with Jordan Hicks then announcing his retirement Friday. Schwesinger, Jerome Baker, Mohamoud Diabate and Devin Bush are now the leading candidates to start at linebacker in Jim Schwartz's 4-3 defense.

  • Browns' Carson Schwesinger: Selected by Browns in Round 2

The Browns selected Schwesinger in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 33rd overall. Schwesinger (6-foot-3, 242 pounds) is an athletic linebacker from UCLA who piled up 136 tackles in 2024. The Browns already have one standout linebacker in Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah (neck) but not much aside from him, so the addition of Schwesinger could give the Browns two standout linebackers capable of playing in all phases between run defense, pass rush and coverage. His selection could also mean the Browns may be concerned about Owusu-Koramoah's ability to begin (or even play in) the 2025 season. Schwesinger should claim a three-down role early on in Cleveland.
