Player Outlook
The rookie Clifford will compete for the Packers backup QB job this summer. Known in Fantasy circles as "the guy who kept Will Levis on the bench at Penn State," Clifford is a smart guy who can move, but he was among the least appealing prospects in 2023 because of his slow reads and lack of pinpoint accuracy. However, it is noticeable that the Packers invested a draft pick in an RPO-style quarterback, likely hinting at the kind of offense they'll run with Jordan Love. Outside of the deepest of two-QB Dynasty leagues, Fantasy managers shouldn't bother adding him to rosters.

  • Packers' Sean Clifford: Spends season as backup

Clifford completed one pass for 37 yards and had three carries for minus-2 yards over two appearances in the 2023 regular season. Clifford spent his entire rookie season backing up Jordan Love, and he made brief appearances in both Weeks 1 and 17 and another in Green Bay's playoff opener. With Love perhaps receiving a lucrative extension over the offseason, Clifford is well-positioned to remain a cost-effective backup.

  • Packers' Sean Clifford: Completes first pass as pro

Clifford completed the lone pass he threw for 37 yards in Sunday's 33-10 victory over the Vikings. He also had two carries for minus-2 yards. Clifford entered Sunday's contest in place of Jordan Love with the Packers holding a comfortable lead in the fourth quarter, and he did make a mark in the box score with one long play and a couple kneeldowns. He remains the only quarterback on Green Bay's active roster other than Love.

  • Packers' Sean Clifford: Officially top backup

Clifford has officially been named the Packers' top backup to Jordan Love, Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. No surprise here, as Clifford has operated as Green Bay's primary backup all through training camp and the preseason thus far. He beat out Alex McGough for the opportunity to back up Jordan Love under center. The rookie fifth-round pick is second in passing yards (345) among all quarterbacks through two preseason games.
