Pearson was waived by the Buccaneers on Sunday, Carmen Vitali of the team's official site reports.
Pearson appeared in one game for the Buccaneers in 2020, but he didn't come close to making the 53-man roster in 2021, as this move was made as part of the team's efforts to trim its roster down to 85 players following the first preseason game.

Buccaneers' Josh Pearson: Remaining in Tampa Bay
Pearson signed a reserve/future contract with the Buccaneers on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
The 23-year-old was elevated to the active roster for one game in 2020, but he spent most of the season on the practice squad. Pearson went undrafted out of Jacksonville State last year and is still looking to make his on-field NFL debut.

Pearson was cut from Tampa Bay's practice squad just two days ago, but the 49ers' decision to sign Josh Rosen away created room for him to return. The undrafted rookie out of Jacksonville State hasn't yet played in a game this season.

The Buccaneers elevated Pearson to the active roster from the practice squad Thursday, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Pearson's promotion ahead of Thursday's contest against the Bears comes with the context that Chris Godwin (hamstring) and Justin Watson (chest) have already been ruled out, and both Mike Evans (ankle) and Scotty Miller (hip) are officially questionable. Depending on how Evans and Miller do in pre-game workouts, Pearson could get a chance to make his NFL debut.

The undrafted free agent was mighty productive in college, racking up 126 receptions for 2,066 yards and 30 touchdowns over his final two seasons at Jacksonville State. If he clears waivers, he'll look to develop on Tampa Bay's scout team.
