Bills' Phillip Gaines: Suffers dislocated elbow
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gaines dislocated his elbow in Sunday's loss to the Chargers, Mike Rodak of ESPN.com reports.

A dislocated elbow can take several weeks to fully heal, but the team is hopeful Gaines will be able to play through the injury next week against the Vikings. With Vontae Davis retiring, Gaines figures to step into a starting role so long as he's able to play, not to mention the depleted Bills simply need able bodies at the cornerback position.

Bills' Phillip Gaines: Starting opportunity
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

With Vontae Davis inactive for the season opener, Gaines will get the start at cornerback opposite Tre'Davious White, JJoe Buscaglia of WKBW.com reports.

Davis may not be that far off, but he's still getting up to speed from November surgery and frankly struggled throughout the preseason, so Gaines will see starting reps for Week 1 at least. He may be in on a decent amount of plays, as teams tend to shy away from the talented White.

Bills' Phillip Gaines: Could have significant role
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gaines, signed as a free agent after spending his first four seasons with the Chiefs, has been the main No. 3 nickel corner during OTA practices, Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News reports.

The Bills play a style of defense where the nickel corner sees the field often, illustrated by last year's No. 3 guy, Leonard Johnson, (who wasn't re-signed) seeing the field for 61 percent of the defensive snaps. Gaines has never logged more than 44 tackles in a season, but he's also spent his entire career in a much different defense. Johnson totaled 53 tackles in the system in 2017.

Bills' Phillip Gaines: Heads to Buffalo
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gaines was signed Thursday, Chris Brown of BuffaloBills.com reports.

At least the equipment manager will have it easy, as the Bills lost starter E.J. Gaines to the Browns this offseason, while Phillip now joins the Buffalo cornerback group. Gaines was a reserve corner for the Chiefs for four seasons, and that's the role he'll likely play with the Bills behind starters Tre'Davious White and Vontae Davis. His new team values experience and culture fit, and that's exactly what Gaines will provide.
