  • Steven Oleksy: Heading overseas

Oleksy has signed a contract in the Austrian league, Seth Rorabaugh of TribLive.com reports.

The 34-year-old defenseman last appeared in an NHL game with the Penguins in the 2016-17 season. He's been bouncing around the minor leagues in North America, but now he'll take his game overseas. It's highly likely Oleksy will play out his career in Europe.

  • Maple Leafs' Steven Oleksy: Traded to Toronto

Oleksy was traded to the Maple Leafs for winger Adam Cracknell on Monday.

Neither player has an NHL appearance this season. Oleksy -- who has 73 career NHL games under his belt at age 32 -- will serve as organizational depth on the blue line for his new club.

  • Ducks' Steven Oleksy: Sent down to minors

Oleksy was reassigned to AHL San Diego on Saturday.

He didn't get to draw into an NHL game upon his call-up Thursday, but Oleksy is a career organizational tweener and we can definitely see him getting called back up when injuries strike the parent club.

  • Ducks' Steven Oleksy: Promoted to big club

The Ducks recalled Oleksy from AHL San Diego on Thursday.

Kevin Bieksa is out indefinitely with a hand injury, so Oleksy will round out the Ducks' depth at defense until Bieksa is cleared to return. The veteran blueliner has enjoyed a hot start to the campaign in the minors, racking up two goals and two assists in five games.

  • Ducks' Steven Oleksy: On waiver wire

Oleksy was waived by the Ducks on Thursday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Oleksy joined Anaheim on a one-year deal in the offseason after suiting up in just 11 games last year with the Penguins. Considering that the Ducks will be without Hampus Lindholm (shoulder) and Sami Vatanen (shoulder) for the first month of the season, the 31-year-old Oleksy likely believed he had a shot at earning a spot on the 23-man roster. Instead, the Michigan native will head to AHL San Diego, assuming he clears waivers.

  • Ducks' Steven Oleksy: Signs deal with Anaheim

Oleksy signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Ducks on Sunday.

The rearguard played in just 30 professional games last year, 11 of which came in the NHL with Pittsburgh (one assist, 24 PIM, 20 hits). With 20 points in 73 career NHL contests since 2012-13, Oleksy doesn't figure to see the Ducks' dressing room with any regularity anytime soon, and he'll more than likely report to AHL San Diego come September.

  • Maple Leafs' Steven Oleksy: Shipped off to Toronto

Oleksy was dealt to the Leafs along with Eric Fehr and a fourth-rounder at Wednesday's trade deadline, with Frank Corrado coming back to the Penguins, ESPN's Pierre LeBrun reports.

A little-used piece of the Penguins' blue line, he'll likely now become a little-used piece of the Leafs' blue line. There's nothing to see here for fantasy purposes.

  • Penguins' Steven Oleksy: Promoted from AHL

Oleksy was recalled from the minors Friday.

Injuries to Olli Maatta (hand) and Justin Schultz (undisclosed) have created a void on the Pens' blue line. In order to plug the gap, Oleksy was called up from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton along with Cameron Gaunce. It's unclear who might slot into the lineup for Friday's matchup with Columbus, but Oleksy is probably the favorite, as he has the most NHL experience.

  • Penguins' Steven Oleksy: Waived by team

Oleksy was placed on waivers Wednesday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Oleksy going on waivers may be an indication that Kris Letang (knee) is ready to return against the Bruins on Thursday. The 30-year-old Oleksy has been a healthy scratch for the Pens' last six contests, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that the team is looking to move him back down to the minors. If Oleksy goes unclaimed off the wire, he'll likely be reassigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

  • Penguins' Steven Oleksy: Takes part in Friday night's fights

Oleksy drew a fighting major for the second time in as many games Friday.

He skated on the right side of a third pair with Ian Cole. Coach Mike Sullivan called Oleksy a "great character guy" following Friday's contest. He saw a team-low 21 defensive shifts, but fantasy owners desperate for penalty minutes might consider the former Capitals player.

  • Penguins' Steven Oleksy: Makes season debut Saturday

Oleksy tallied an assist and registered a plus-1 rating Saturday against the Devils.

He replaced Brian Dumoulin and gave Pittsburgh a physical presence lacking in the defensive zone. While it's unknown whether coach Mike Sullivan will keep him active for Wednesday, he helped his stock Saturday and set himself up for more future action.

  • Penguins' Steven Oleksy: Brought up to majors

Oleksy was recalled from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Tuesday.

After starting his career with the Capitals, Oleksy crossed enemy lines after the 2014-15 season to sign with the Penguins. The blueliner has yet to suit up for Pittsburgh in an NHL contest and likely needs to wait a little longer as he will probably be a healthy scratch Tuesday against the Oilers.

  • Penguins' Steven Oleksy: Remains with Penguins

Oleksy signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Penguins on Friday worth $575,000 at the NHL level, Stephen Whyno of AP Sports reports.

Oleksy never actually made an appearance for the Penguins last season, and there's no guarantee that he'll be given that opportunity in 2016-17. However, per the terms of this latest contract, the 30-year-old would still make $300,000 at the AHL level.

  • Penguins' Steven Oleksy: Back with Penguins

Oleksy was recalled from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Tuesday, Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Oleksy hasn't seen any time in the NHL this season, but could have a legitimate shot at seeing action in playoffs with multiple Pens defensemen unavailable. Even if that's the case, his ice time and fantasy upside will likely be limited given the other options along the blue line.

  • Penguins' Steven Oleksy: Sent down to AHL

Oleksy was reassigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Thursday according to AHL transaction page.

Oleksy's demotion likely means that the immigration issues for fellow blueliner Justin Schultz have been resolved. The 30-year-old has yet to appear in an NHL game for the Penguins. Barring injury, it's unlikely that trend will change for the remainder of the 2015-16 campaign.

  • Penguins' Steven Oleksy: Recalled to Pittsburgh

Oleksy was called up Tuesday by the Penguins.

Oleksy has been logging some significant mileage of late after bouncing back and forth between Pittsburgh and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The team was in need of depth on the blue line after the Devils claimed David Warsofsky off waivers. Despite the promotions, the 30-year-old has yet to suit up for the Penguins this season, but has logged 45 games with the Baby Pens where he garnered 11 points and 78 PIM. Oleksy's fantasy value remains depressed, as it's unclear whether he'll get on the ice at any point.

  • Penguins' Steven Oleksy: Reassigned Sunday

Oleksy was reassigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Sunday, Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazzette reports.

The journeyman defenseman didn't appear in a game for the Penguins during his stint in the NHL, and played just one NHL game last season for the Washington Capitals. Oleksy is a gritty defenseman that can provide a team some additional depth on the blueline, but the Penguins have an excess of bodies on defense, so don't expect Oleksy to return to the NHL roster this season.

  • Penguins' Steven Oleksy: Called up Saturday

Oleksy was promoted to the parent club Saturday.

Oleksy keeps pinballing between the organizational ranks. Currently, the Penguins have defenders David Warsofsky (concussion) and Beau Bennett (upper body) on injured reserve, so the team will examine ways in which Oleksy can contribute. He's a physical player, having amassed 147 PIM with AHL Hershey last season and another 78 minutes in the Sin Bin with AHL Wilkes-Barre this campaign. Still, he's 30 years old, and won't be more than a prayer in fantasy leagues based on his inability to land a consistent role in the NHL.

  • Penguins' Steven Oleksy: Returns to AHL

Oleksy was assigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Thursday.

Oleksy was recalled Wednesday, but did not dress in the Pens' loss to the Bruins. The 30-year-old will return to the minors, but remains a depth option for Pittsburgh.
