The coach was pleased with what he saw in Anderson, who scored a goal in each of the three preseason games he played. This trio played together at times last season, but St. Louis never settled on a permanent third forward for the first line.

Anderson scored a goal on two shots in Friday's 2-1 preseason loss to the Maple Leafs.
Anderson potted his second preseason goal in as many games. The power forward's 2022-23 season ended prematurely in March due to an ankle injury, but he still managed to notch 21 markers and 32 points in 69 appearances. Since joining the Canadiens for 2020-21 campaign, Anderson has increased his goal scoring in each season. Habs head coach Martin St. Louis has shuffled lines during camp and in preseason games, but Anderson is expected to be a top-six forward when the regular season opens Oct. 11 against Toronto.

Anderson sat out the final 11 games of the 2022-23 campaign due to a high-ankle sprain. He registered 21 goals, 32 points, 164 shots on net and 139 hits in 69 contests prior to getting injured. Anderson will be in the mix for a top-six spot to begin 2023-24.
