Leipsic inked a two-year contract with CSKA Moscow (KHL) on Friday, Sport-Express.ru reports.
Leipsic -- who was released by the Capitals in May -- will make his first foray into European hockey. Given the circumstances surrounding his release, even a strong two years in Russia likely won't be enough for the winger to return to the NHL. He may end up finishing his professional career overseas.

Brendan Leipsic: Waived unconditionally
Leipsic was placed on unconditional waivers by the Capitals on Friday for the purpose of terminating his contract.
The team's decision to part ways with Leipsic follows the release of social media messages in which the forward took part in misogynistic and otherwise distasteful comments targeted toward various women. The winger's contract will be terminated immediately upon his 24-hour waiver clearance.

Without an increased role, the WInnipeg native's ceiling is probably in the area of 20 points.

Leipsic tallied an assist and three shots during Saturday's 5-2 win over the Lightning.
The helper snapped a seven-game point-less streak for Leipsic, bringing him to three goals and nine points in 34 games this season. The third-round pick of the Predators in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft has entrenched himself in Washington's bottom six but will need more ice time (averaging 9:21) to be of any value in fantasy formats.

The fourth liner broke in on a partial breakaway midway through the third period and beat Sergei Bobrovsky with a nifty deke to put Washington up 4-2. The goal, just the third for Leipsic this season, proved to be the game-winner. He only saw 10 shifts and logged just under eight minutes of ice time, fulfilling his typical bottom-six role.

Leipsic scored a goal on three shots in Wednesday's 2-1 shootout win over the Flyers.
Leipsic, who logged just 7:04 of ice time, opened the scoring six minutes into the second period, picking up his second goal of the year. Both of those goals have came in November after the 25-year-old endured a 14-game goal drought to open the season. Now with his fifth team since 2015-16, Leipsic has never scored more than five goals in a season and will continue to serve a bottom-six role for the Caps.

Leipsic picked up a goal and an assist and was plus-2 in Friday's 6-1 win over the Sabres.
The first-year Capital had gone 14 games without finding the net but ended the drought midway through the first period when he converted a back-door feed. Leipsic also assisted on Chandler Stephenson's goal earlier in the period. The 25-year-old is already with his fifth NHL team and has never topped five goals in a season, so nights like tonight will be few and far between.
