Top Samuel Ersson News

  • Flyers' Samuel Ersson: Allows two goals in win

Ersson stopped 24 of 26 shots in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Sabres.

Ersson earned his first regulation win of the season after his previous four victories all came in the shootout. The 26-year-old limited the damage to goals by Jason Zucker and Bowen Byram. Ersson is now 5-2-2 with a 2.97 GAA and an .867 save percentage over nine appearances. Dan Vladar is still serving as the Flyers' go-to starter, but with three wins in his last four outings, Ersson has at least been able to get results lately. Neither goalie will be a recommended option in fantasy when the Flyers host the Avalanche on Sunday.

  • Flyers' Samuel Ersson: First goalie off Wednesday

Ersson was the first goalie to leave the ice ahead of Wednesday's home clash with the Sabres, Jordan Hall of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports, indicating he'll be in goal.

Ersson has given up three or more goals in six of his eight outings this year, posting a 4-2-2 record, 3.09 GAA and .859 save percentage. The 26-year-old backstop will be making his third appearance in the Flyers' last seven outings despite his underwhelming numbers.

  • Flyers' Samuel Ersson: Stops 28 shots, earns win

Ersson stopped 28 of 31 shots in Friday's 4-3 shootout win over the Islanders.

Ersson has avoided defeat in regulation in three of his last four starts. However, that record doesn't tell the whole story, as the 26-year-old netminder has also posted a save percentage of .890 or lower in three of those outings. As such, and considering he's entrenched in a backup role, it's hard to trust Ersson in fantasy going forward.

  • Flyers' Samuel Ersson: In goal Friday

Ersson will start Friday's road matchup against the Islanders.

Ersson stopped 15 of 17 shots in Monday's 3-0 loss to Tampa Bay, with the third goal being an empty-netter. He has posted a 3-2-2 record this season while allowing 23 goals on 153 shots. The Islanders sit 21st in the league with 2.96 goals per game this campaign.

  • Flyers' Samuel Ersson: Stuck on wrong end of shutout

Ersson stopped 15 of 17 shots in Monday's 3-0 loss to the Lightning, with Tampa Bay's final goal getting scored into an empty net.

The 26-year-old netminder had little chance at either puck that got past him, and the Flyers' offense couldn't solve Andrei Vasilevskiy. It was Ersson's first regulation loss since Oct. 16, although he hasn't been getting consistent work as the No. 2 behind Dan Vladar. On the season, Ersson's 3-2-2 in seven starts with a 3.14 GAA and an .850 save percentage.

  • Flyers' Samuel Ersson: Tending twine Monday

Ersson will patrol the road crease versus the Lightning on Monday.

Ersson has allowed three or more goals in all but one of his six outings but has still managed a 3-1-2 record. Even with the wins, the Swedish netminder is sporting career-worst numbers in both GAA (3.30) and save percentage (.846) to start the year. With a back-to-back against the Islanders and Devils on Friday and Saturday, respectively, Ersson is in line to make multiple starts this week.

  • Flyers' Samuel Ersson: Ugly outing in shootout win

Ersson stopped 12 of 17 shots in Friday's 6-5 shootout win over the Blues.

Ersson has faced fewer than 20 shots in three of his six outings on the year, but he's yet to take advantage of light workloads, allowing a total of 12 goals on 45 shots in those games. He's shined in the shootout, which is where he's collected all three of his wins this season. The 26-year-old is 3-1-2 with a 3.30 GAA and an .846 save percentage on the year. Ersson's performance hasn't been good enough on the whole, but it looks like he'll resume splitting time with Dan Vladar in the crease after recovering from a lower-body injury. If the split is even, Vladar can be projected for Saturday's road game in Dallas while Ersson would be lined up for a rematch with the Blues in Philadelphia on Thursday.

  • Flyers' Samuel Ersson: Starting against St. Louis

Ersson will defend the road crease against the Blues on Friday.

Ersson has seen limited playing time in recent weeks, but he'll draw the start for the second time in the Flyers' last three games. He's been relatively effective when called upon this season, going 2-1-2 with a 3.03 GAA and .866 save percentage.

  • Flyers' Samuel Ersson: Barely busy in overtime loss

Ersson made 10 saves in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Senators on Saturday.

The Senators went to sleep and had no shots between 12:09 of the second and 18:34 of the third. Ersson faced just seven shots after the first period, but somehow came away with the defeat. He's 2-1-2 with a 3.03 GAA and an .864 save percentage in five starts this season.

  • Flyers' Samuel Ersson: Facing Senators

Ersson will patrol the home crease versus Ottawa on Saturday.

Ersson came off injured reserve for Thursday's game against Nashville after missing four contests due to a lower-body injury. He backed up Dan Vladar on Thursday and will make his first start since Oct 28, when he turned aside 24 shots in a 3-2 win over Pittsburgh. The Senators are generating 3.43 goals per game this season, good for eighth in the NHL.

  • Flyers' Samuel Ersson: Activated from IR

Ersson (lower body) was activated from injured reserve on Thursday.

While Ersson is back on the Flyers' roster, Dan Vladar is expected to start Thursday in Nashville. Ersson could be back between the pipes as soon as Saturday's home matinee game versus the Senators. With Ersson healthy, it's safe to assume Aleksei Kolosov's playing time will drop, or Kolosov could be sent to AHL Lehigh Valley in a later move.

  • Flyers' Samuel Ersson: Not available Thursday

Ersson (undisclosed) will not play Thursday versus Nashville, Charlie O'Connor of PHLY Sports reports.

Head coach Rick Tocchet said Wednesday that Ersson "tweaked something," and the issue will sideline the goaltender for at least one game. The 26-year-old netminder is 2-1-1 with a 3.08 GAA and an .876 save percentage in October. He has been replaced by Dan Vladar as the Flyers' top netminder. Philadelphia recalled Aleksei Kolosov in a corresponding move to back up Vladar on Thursday.

  • Flyers' Samuel Ersson: Lands on injured reserve

Ersson was placed on injured reserve due to a lower-body injury Thursday.

Ersson tweaked something during Wednesday's practice session, and he'll be forced to miss multiple games due to his injury. Dan Vladar should serve as the Flyers' primary netminder in Ersson's absence, while Aleksei Kolosov was recalled from AHL Lehigh Valley to provide additional depth.

  • Flyers' Samuel Ersson: Questionable for Thursday

Ersson is day-to-day after tweaking something, head coach Rick Tocchet told Jordan Hall of NBC Sports Philadelphia on Wednesday.

Ersson isn't expected to miss much time, but he's questionable for Thursday's home game against Nashville. The 26-year-old goaltender has a 2-1-1 record, 3.08 GAA and .876 save percentage in four appearances this season. Ersson has started in Philadelphia's last two games, and the Flyers won both of those clashes, so perhaps Philadelphia will utilize him in net again Thursday if he's healthy. In the scenario where Ersson is unavailable, then Dan Vladar will presumably get the start, and Philadelphia will recall a goaltender from the minors to serve as Vladar's understudy.

  • Flyers' Samuel Ersson: Second straight win

Ersson made 24 saves in a 3-2 shootout win over Pittsburgh on Tuesday.

The first goal snuck between Ersson's pad and the goal post in the first period, and the second was a pure fluke in the third frame. Sidney Crosby backhanded a pass from behind the net, but it hit Nick Seeler's shoulder and dropped in behind Ersson. The 26-year-old Ersson has now won two games in a row while allowing five goals after surrendering eight markers across two losses (0-1-1) to start the season. Ersson's game may be tightening up.

  • Flyers' Samuel Ersson: Gets starting nod versus Pens

Ersson will be between the pipes for Tuesday's home clash with Pittsburgh.

Ersson seems to have fallen behind Dan Vladar on the Flyers' depth chart but will be making consecutive starts for the first time this year. In his three outings this year, the 26-year-old Ersson is sporting a 1-1-1 record to go with an .861 save percentage. With an upcoming back-to-back, Ersson should get another start against either Toronto or Calgary on Saturday or Sunday, respectively.

  • Flyers' Samuel Ersson: Gets first win of season

Ersson made 23 saves in a 4-3 shootout win over the Islanders on Saturday.

Ersson earned his first win of the season to improve to 1-1-1. Simon Holmstrom beat him in the first while shorthanded, and Anthony Duclair tapped in a pass early in the second to drive the Isles up 2-0. Maxim Tsyplakov redirected a pass behind him early in the third. Holmstrom beat him again in the shootout. Ersson's 3.50 GAA should come down, and his .861 save percentage should go up, but fantasy managers shouldn't expect dramatic improvements based on his previous three seasons.

  • Flyers' Samuel Ersson: Tending twine Saturday

Ersson will patrol the home crease against the Islanders on Saturday.

Ersson allowed four goals in each of his previous two starts while making 45 total saves en route to a record of 0-1-1. The Islanders enter Saturday's afternoon matchup with 3.86 goals per game this season, which ranks fourth in the league.

  • Flyers' Samuel Ersson: Strafed by Jets

Ersson allowed four goals on just 14 shots in Thursday's 5-2 loss to Winnipeg, with the Jets' final goal getting scored into an empty net.

Both defenses were stingy, as the Flyers wound up outshooting the visitors 17-15 on the night, but Ersson was victimized by some bad zone clearances and bad bounces -- Morgan Barron's game-winner late in the second period caromed into the net after hitting Noah Cates in the back. Ersson has split the workload with Dan Vladar in the Philly crease so far, going 0-1-1 in two starts while giving up eight goals on 53 shots -- a far cry from Vladar's four goals allowed on 60 shots.

  • Flyers' Samuel Ersson: Facing Jets

Ersson will be between the home pipes versus Winnipeg on Thursday, Jordan Hall of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

Ersson is sharing the net with Dan Vladar in the early going. Ersson gave up four goals on 39 shots in a 4-3 overtime loss to Edmonton on Saturday. The Jets have scored 12 goals in three games this season.
