Top Vincent Iorio News

  • Rangers' Vincent Iorio: Seeing little playing time

Iorio has played in just six of 20 games since the Rangers claimed him off waivers from the Sharks in late January. He was a healthy scratch Tuesday versus the Devils.

Iorio's playing time looked to be picking up after the Olympic break, but the Rangers have a healthy Adam Fox and are also giving a long look to Drew Fortescue for now. That leaves Iorio as the odd man out. In 27 total appearances between the Rangers and the Sharks, Iorio has three assists, 15 shots on net, 15 hits, 39 blocked shots, 12 PIM and a minus-4 rating. It's unclear if he'll be anything more than a part-time option late in the campaign.

  • Rangers' Vincent Iorio: Claimed off waivers

Iorio was claimed off waivers by the Rangers from San Jose on Saturday, per Chris Johnston of The Athletic.

Iorio had three assists, 12 PIM, 10 shots, 11 hits and 32 blocks in 21 outings with the Sharks in 2025-26 before being waived. The Rangers are missing Adam Fox (lower body), so they could use the added defensive depth that Iorio provides. Even so, there's no guarantee Iorio will get into the lineup.

  • Sharks' Vincent Iorio: On waivers

Iorio was put on waivers by San Jose on Friday, per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.

Iorio has three assists, 12 PIM, 11 hits and 32 blocks in 21 outings in 2025-26. He's spent the Sharks' past six games as a healthy scratch, so if he clears waivers, San Jose will likely send him to the minors so that the 23-year-old can get some playing time.

  • Sharks' Vincent Iorio: Pockets assist Tuesday

Iorio logged an assist, two hits and two blocked shots in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Flames.

Iorio played for the second game in a row and the fourth time in 11 contests since the end of his AHL conditioning loan in November. The 23-year-old defenseman is far from secure in the Sharks' lineup, which has seen a number of players rotate in and out on the blue line at times. Iorio has a helper, four shots on net, eight hits, 14 blocks, six PIM and a minus-3 rating over 10 appearances this season.

  • Sharks' Vincent Iorio: Back from conditioning loan

Iorio was recalled from his conditioning stint with AHL San Jose on Monday.

Iorio had seven assists, five shots on goal and a plus-7 rating in six minor-league outings during his conditioning assignment. He will be an option for Wednesday's game against Colorado, but it's unclear if he will be in the lineup.

  • Sharks' Vincent Iorio: Closes AHL loan with two helpers

Iorio logged two assists in AHL San Jose's 4-3 overtime win over Abbotsford on Saturday.

Iorio impressed during his 14-day conditioning loan, racking up seven helpers over six games in total, as well as a plus-7 rating and five shots on net. The Sharks will have to add him back to their NHL roster Sunday or expose him to waivers, which is how they got him from the Capitals in the first place. Assuming he stays with the Sharks, he should be in contention for bottom-four minutes moving forward, likely at the expense of John Klingberg or Vincent Desharnais. There could be a lot of shuffling of blueliners in and out of the lineup if the Sharks continue to carry nine defensemen.

  • Sharks' Vincent Iorio: Sent to AHL for conditioning

Iorio was assigned to AHL San Jose on Sunday for a conditioning loan.

Iorio has been a healthy scratch for the last seven games. Since being claimed off waivers from Washington on Oct. 16, he hasn't earned a point in six appearances with the Sharks, but he has registered three shots on net, six blocked shots and three hits.

  • Sharks' Vincent Iorio: Claimed by San Jose

Iorio was claimed off waivers by the Sharks on Thursday, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports.

Iorio was waived by Washington on Wednesday as they tried to sneak him through to allow him to get some playing time in the minors. Iorio was a healthy scratch for all four Capitals games this season. The Sharks are hurting on the blue line, as Timothy Liljegren (upper body) was placed on injured reserve earlier Thursday, while John Klingberg is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

  • Capitals' Vincent Iorio: On waivers

Iorio was put on waivers by Washington on Wednesday, per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.

Iorio served as a healthy scratch for Washington's first four games of the 2025-26 campaign, so it's not surprising to see him on waivers. He had five goals and 20 points in 67 regular-season outings with AHL Hershey in 2024-25.

  • Capitals' Vincent Iorio: Sent to minors

Iorio was reassigned to AHL Hershey on Wednesday.

Iorio didn't play for Washington during his NHL stint. He has a goal and three points across nine outings with Hershey in 2024-25. Matt Roy was activated off injured reserve in a corresponding move.

  • Capitals' Vincent Iorio: Recalled from AHL

Iorio was recalled from AHL Hershey on Saturday.

The Capitals placed Jakob Chychrun (upper body) on injured reserve in a corresponding move. Iorio played six regular-season games for the Capitals in 2023-24, but the 20-year-old defender didn't earn a point. He has a goal and two assists in nine AHL outings this campaign. It's unclear if Iorio will play in Saturday's matchup versus Columbus, but it wouldn't be surprising if he sat in the press box as a healthy scratch.

  • Capitals' Vincent Iorio: Dropped to AHL

Iorio (upper body) was loaned to AHL Hershey on Monday.

Iorio sat out three straight contests to conclude Washington's first-round series loss to the Rangers. Assuming he's healthy, which his demotion suggests, he should get a chance to play for the Bears in the AHL playoffs. The 21-year-old defender had four goals and 14 points in 60 minor-league appearances during the 2023-24 regular season.

  • Capitals' Vincent Iorio: Won't play Sunday

Iorio (upper body) won't play Sunday in Game 4 against the Rangers, per Tom Gulitti of NHL.com.

Iorio stayed out late with Washington's expected scratches after participating in the morning skate in a non-contact capacity. He will miss his third straight outing due to an injury he sustained in the team's playoff opener last Sunday. However, the Capitals will get some reinforcements on the blue line because Rasmus Sandin (upper body) and Nick Jensen (upper body) are set to return to the lineup.

  • Capitals' Vincent Iorio: In non-contact jersey

Iorio (upper body) practiced in a non-contact jersey Saturday, Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post reports.

Iorio was injured Sunday in Game 1, and Saturday's practice was the first time he was back on the ice. The Capitals suffered another injury to their blue line Friday -- their fourth rearguard injury -- when Trevor van Riemsdyk (upper body) was hurt on a hit by Matt Rempe.

  • Capitals' Vincent Iorio: Not playing Friday

Iorio (upper body) will remain out of the lineup for Game 3 against the Rangers on Friday, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports.

Iorio has not returned to practice since he was injured Sunday during Game 1 in New York. The 21-year-old blueliner went pointless in six NHL games during the regular season.

  • Capitals' Vincent Iorio: Won't play in Game 2

Iorio (upper body) will not be an option for Game 2 against the Rangers on Tuesday, Jean-Francois Chaumont of NHL.com reports.

Iorio will join a growing list of blue-line absences that also includes Rasmus Sandin (upper body) and Nick Jensen (upper body). As a result, Lucas Johansen is poised to make his NHL playoffs debut. In his seven NHL games this season, the 21-year-old Iorio had no points, six shots, three hits and three blocks while averaging a mere 8:41 of ice time.

  • Capitals' Vincent Iorio: Deemed day-to-day

Iorio (upper body) is considered day-to-day, according to Tarik El-Bashir of Monumental Sports Network.

Iorio didn't participate in Monday's practice after being injured in Game 1's 4-1 loss to the Rangers on Sunday. If Iorio, Rasmus Sandin (upper body) and Nick Jensen (upper body) are unavailable to play Tuesday, Lucas Johansen could make his NHL playoff debut.

  • Capitals' Vincent Iorio: Exits Sunday's game

Iorio (upper body) is questionable to return to Sunday's Game 1 matchup against the Rangers.

Iorio was injured in the second period after being hit hard into the boards by Alexis Lafreniere. The 21-year-old Iorio appeared to be favoring his shoulder as he made his way off the ice.

  • Capitals' Vincent Iorio: Receives call-up

Iorio was called up from AHL Hershey on Wednesday.

Iorio's promotion corresponds with Ethan Bear (not injury related) entering the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program on Wednesday. The 21-year-old Iorio will give the Capitals some extra defensive depth, but it's unclear how much he'll play while with the big club.

  • Capitals' Vincent Iorio: Returned to AHL

Iorio was returned to AHL Hershey on Friday.

The 20-year-old made his NHL debut Friday and played three games with the Capitals, picking up an assist in his first game. Iorio was selected in the second round -- 55th overall -- in 2021. He had two goals and 15 assists in 51 games with AHL Hershey before his recall.
