Luukkonen (lower body) was removed from Tuesday's game versus the Lightning after the first period.
It's unclear when Luukkonen was hurt -- he took a shot off the mask in the first period, but the lower-body detail of his injury suggests that play was not the reason for his exit. The Finn allowed two goals on nine shots, and he was in line for the loss upon his exit. More information should be available prior to Thursday's game against the Predators.... See More ... See Less

Luukkonen stopped 30 of 32 shots in Thursday's 3-2 shootout win over the Wild.
Luukkonen was excellent in Thursday's contest against a much stronger opponent that didn't have its best game. The Finn has now won two games in a row, and he's started in five straight. Luukkonen made 34 saves in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Jets.
Luukkonen has been fantastic since being called up, allowing exactly two goals in each of his four starts, all of which have come since Dec. 7. The 22-year-old Finn was finally rewarded for his strong play with his first win of the season, and the victory snapped a seven-game winless skid for the Sabres. Luukkonen had been losing his luster as a prospect between poor play with AHL Rochester over the past few years and a 3.88 GAA in his cup of coffee with Buffalo last season, but this strong stretch has put him back on the map in keeper formats, even if Luukkonen's short-term value remains limited by the Sabres' shortcomings in front of him.... Luukkonen turned aside 40 shots in regulation and overtime and one of three shootout attempts in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Capitals.
The young netminder did everything he could just to earn the Sabres a point in the standings, as Luukkonen got little help from his defense. He's made three straight starts for Buffalo as the team seems willing to give him a chance to seize the starting job, and while his 0-2-1 record seems underwhelming, Luukkonen's 1.98 GAA and .938 save percentage have been excellent....
